Is 2001 4X4 Mitsubishi Montero a good buy?
I have an opportunity to buy one of those. Has a bad engine (probably gasket, may be worst than that)
This is the full size montero.
Everything else looks good.
What do you think? seller is asking $800.
Thanks

Uh.... I imagine that by Montero you mean 4Runner. Since this is a 4Runner forum and all. That said...

I'd buy one from that generation for $800 if it ran well. They are very limited as to what kind of suspension mods you can do but they will go places. Not very fast though, and they have major transmissions issues with their auto trans. Take it to a mechanic first......

Monteros have the sickest oem wheels btw. i tried looking for a set back in the day but i think they only come in 15s.

I considered running these on my 87 long ago. I agree that they're very cool wheels.
I had a neighbor that had one that was all Jaos'd out. Pretty slick.

My Sis's best friend drove one for 244,xxx miles (Pharm rep in NY) till the axle rusted through, then she got a Pilot, which she hated.
It is a gas hog but if you have an engine in waiting, buy it. Parts are hard to find.

Valve stem seal issues and this generation has some known transmission issues.
With that said... I've wanted a Montero for a LONG time.

Thanks for all the replies.
I am between a Cruiser and this Montero. I know the Cruiser (1995) is the best. But it is in Phoenix AZ. Must find a T4r Member there.
