Please identify this noise

2002 4runner. When I apply the brakes fairly hard there is a noise on the passenger side from what I think is the firewall area. It sounds like something is opening or closing. It doesn't effect my braking. Any ideas?

Take a video of the noise. Visually inspect your brakes. Be more specific on the kind of noise. Opening and closing doesn't help us much. Is it metallic, dull, louder than hell or quieter than a mouse?

Hi guys,

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I noticed some squeaking noise coming from my driver side front tire. I jacked the car up and rotated the tire by hand and heard the same noise. It only happens in one part of the revolution.

Here is a link to a video: CV Axle Squeak - YouTube

Any idea as to what this could be?

Thanks

Not meaning to highjack the thread, either, but I've had a rather loud whistling/chirping/Jetson's noise mainly when cruising over 20mph but not really during acceleration. Not affected by shifting including neutral or gassing while rolling in neutral. Hoping it's a dry or dying pulley bearing or something else external. I have also developed a bit of a whirring, 'laboring' semi-straining sound that does seen to come from the engine or drivetrain. I can't isolate it yet either. Also going to put up a couple clips on youtube in another thread soon. I have been going pretty hard on her for the last year and am going to do the diffs and tranny oils, since it's been almost 2 years since.

Interesting, why would the tire balance cause that?

Inner seal lip is deformed in the video. Thinking that could be culprit.

Another easy check is to pull the tire off and make sure your dust cover for your brakes isn't rubbing on the rotor, I have had that happen (mine was severely rusted) and it made a similar sound
