Did I screw up?
In efforts of clearing 285s, I started pounding away at the pinch weld, and cutting some of the plastic in the wheel well.
I might have got carried away, and cut off a bit much of the plastic, AND tried to flatten the weld a bit higher up as well. I noticed a small split along the line. Is this gonna be a problem? Worried about possible water leakage.....
Look ok? Should I seal it somehow? Does yours look this way?
Can anyone chime in on this?

Mine is currently the same way, a small gap on both sides. Haven't noticed any problems (but haven't kept a super close eye on it), but do plan on patching it up. I would recommend sealing it up if you're happy with your trimming, no harm can really be done... JB Weld would probably do it well, or if you have access, a welder would probably be even better!

Mine is missing the plastics on both sides, no issues in over 100k miles with lots of mudding!

I don't think there's anything to worry about there. Keep smashing until it's flat.

I did the same thing then filled the gap with foam and painted it black.

Ok, I don't feel quite as bad. Happen to remember what kind of foam you used?

But seriously, hit it hard, fill it with sealant, paint over it.

honestly you dont need to weld it, a lot of the body is sealed with silicone from the factory or simply folded over. get a sheet of aluminum cut it to shape with hand shears and rtv the piece in. oh yeah you havent even cut anything nevermind...
heres what it looks like after i welded it closed. the body is enclosed by the sheet metal, the plastic is simply there to act as a sort of mud flap for the metal thats underneath and to hide it as well.

The pinch weld actually has openings at intervals all the way along it. I'd thought of it as pretty air and water tight before, but it isn't.

Home depot sells the stuff, I always keep a bottle of it around the house. It's used for filling gaps around vents & pipes to insulate your house but I tend to use it for just about everything. It's super messy though if you're not careful though.
