188k and slight engine noise? VIDEO

Hey guys,

First I just wanna say I LOVE my 3rd gen and these forums absolutely have helped me so much with maintenance and getting it to the point it's at now.

Currently at 188k, it's started to develop this ticking almost knocking sound. I've researched quite a bit and found that it MIGHT be piston slap. There is no power loss, no burning of oil or anything to make me think something is seriously wrong. I'm using 5w-30 Castrol High mileage.. maybe I should go a bit thicker? 10w-30? It only does this warmed up at idle. Noise seems to fade away with load and/or higher rpms. I have no problems just driving and ignoring the sound as the truck gets the job done day in and day out. Doesn't sound horrible to me anyway. And doesn't sound like piston slap: How would you know if its piston slap

I do hear the usual valve ticking and maybe a slight exhaust leak especially when you put the mic under left fender? Could try thicker oil like rotella t6 5-40.

Have you drained and inspected the oil recently? Was it sparkly or clean?

It was pretty clean as far as I can tell. I've changed my oil every 3k.

I'm gonna have to check that one day actually. It's riding on the borderline of a piston slap/valve tick sound. I don't think it's an exhaust leak but I guess it's possible. I'll have to check that also. I've had excellent experience with Rotella in my subaru, never thought it was for yota's tho..
