Look at the huge thread for the Tundra brake upgrade. There is a picture of the dust shield marked where it roughly needs to be trimmed. You can use a dremel, tin snips, ect.

Anything you would need or want to know is in that thread. I just ordered my rotors/pads last night. I'll be using my connection at Autozone to get the calipers for cheap. So, I can't tell you first hand any further.

The job isn't very difficult, bleeding brakes is the worst for a noobie to do properly. There isn't a need for loosening the hardline it appears either. I glanced over it and it's just the banjo bolt at the caliper it looked like. If you can bleed brakes, probably easy enough to do yourself.

There is a flex section attached to the steering knuckle, but the actual connection to the caliper is a hard line- so you'll need to disconnect that to change the caliper. If it's frozen in there, the factory pre-bent section is pretty cheap to avoid the hassle of making your own (I think it's about 10 bucks)

Gotcha, I assumed it was hardline > flex line > caliper.

I just did Bilstein's up front recently but didn't inspect my brake line's. I initially said he could encounter problems with the fitting between flex line and hardline. Doesn't seem as though that's necessary, so the hardest portion to someone inexperienced is bleeding the brakes, is it not?

I haven't discovered this for myself yet. My bad for the ignorance on the details.

I try my best to do things on my own. There are some very good write-ups on here. It really was notnhard at all. Read through the write-ups and get a good understanding of what you're doing. Maybe take the wheel off and look at everything while youre reading through. Once you feel confident enough give it a shot. The first side took me about 45 minutes until I realized where I needed to trim the dust shield. I used tin snips to cut the shield. It was easy. Also, if you have abpipe to put over your wrench to get the mounting bolts off that will help as well.

tldr: it is an easy job and id hate to see someone pay for labor on this job with all the resources that this site has.

Hardest part is bleeding brakes. Yes. Find someone that may be able to help you. If they don't drink beer, offer them pizza instead.

Brake bleeding is easy with two people. And isn't really that difficult once you've done it once.

Dust Shield/Mod on Tundra Brake Upgrade--How Important?

The dust shield does what it's supposed to do, I'm told: it seals off the wheel/brake area from the hub area, so that brake dust doesn't penetrate the hub and hardware there. Otherwise, wouldn't all us upgraders be faced with servicing/rebuilding the hubs constantly? So, hopefully, when I upgrade to the Tundra front brakes, I can retain a decent shielding around the calipers, so that not too much dust penetrates. I couldn't find the S13WE/dust shield photo, showing where the dust shield needs modification. But, I'm hopeful the mechanic I choose maintains a decent part of the dust shield around the calipers up front. Thanks for the infos here, all. Again, if anyone would like my S13WE core calipers I'm not using, please advise.
