I'd go with a factory set if you're not pressed for looks. You can pick up a set on craigslist for pretty cheap and freshen up with paint, if that's what you like

That will be a wait and see I guess, I still am partial to some black steelies I think. Or go full moto and buy some beadlocks.we all know its all about lookin good
Update: I went and looked at it had a good time in Greenville and the truck was solid. It had some extra work done that the guy didn't really know a ton about, but everything looked and sounded good. The water pump is about 5l away from needing to be done but I was expecting to do it right away anyway.
We drove each others rigs and everything was I order but he was worried about the fj being too much truck for his son so he is going to discuss it with the family a little more. Not sure if I will be getting that one.
Having said that I think I will be trying to replace my rig with a runner exclusively now. I liked the feel and drive and I like how the built ones look. So keep the suggestions coming.

Welcome!
Nice looking truck to start with! There are some things I'd start with. Jeremyc74s' post would be a good start. As he said you have a few years of life yet, on the TB. If you plan on lifting, LBJ's are strongly advised--- the documented failures here are all on lifted rigs. Stick to OEM. I by-passed the rad (added an external cooler), but after a year, I wasn't happy with the temp variation, as I tow a Sportboat all Summer, so I added a second cooler with a thermo bypass. I finished my Tundra brake upgrade recently and I'm really happy with it. I should have done it years ago, as I tow! My problem was I had to replace 2 sets of rims$$$---- if you do this, you need to ensure the rims you have or choose to replace them with, fit over the 231MM calipers. There are pics and posts of my rims on the following thread. I acquired everything (except the rotors and pads) from the wreckers and re-built and re-finished them. Check this thread out: Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors
This is not hard. Trimming the backing plate and bleeding the brakes are the only steps that require consideration--- my hardest part was researching/finding rims that fit over the calipers.
Check out this thread, its a must: 3rd Gen 4Runner Buyer's Guide
Also: 3rd Gen FAQ, Tutorials, & Documentation Reference v2
And good info wrt lifts: 3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's
And some OMG's: Blcktpgsr's '97 transformation
COB's 4Runner Timeline (Pic Heavy)
I found "The One", 2001 Sport Ed. TRD SC'd
Dirtco's 1999 4Runner Build
There are lots more but I thought this would keep you busy for a while!! Good luck!

It already has the bypass done to it so that is one less project for me. That is so great info though I defiantly think I was be doing the tundra brakes.

The grille, is custom, but you can make your own. It's really not that hard, just takes some time.
The wheels are the trail edition wheels that you can get on the post facelift 5th gen 4Runners.

I was thinking about doing something similar but with smaller lettering. Kind of like fj40 lettering.

Yeah that's pretty popular. A traditional style "Satoshi" grille is what you're talking about.

I highly rec buying some brand new wheels from a SR5/Trail 2015/2016 4Runner, you can easily find them on the board or craigslist. People take them off at the dealer and they never see the road.
Completely update the look of the exterior more than any mod, in my opinion. I got mine for $600 (with new stock tires) and sold my old wheels for $300.

Yeah I really like the way those look. I might need to powder coat them black though!
I have a 2015 sr5 that I am going to build up a little for my wife. Part of that is replacing the rims on so I might just switch them.

Update:
I don't think that deal is going through with the limited. There was a fear that my 60 was a bit too much truck for his son. I am glad I was able to go up there and drive it though because 1) got a nice trip to Greenville with the lady and 2) helped me make up my mind on what kind of rig to build.
Once I sell my cruiser I am defiantly going to be building a 3rd gen. I think it will be the best fit for my wife and I and it will defiantly fit our budget. I should be able to get a little nicer of af a ride for the money if I just sell my cruiser. His was sitting around 7500 if we would have made a deal and I think I can do a little better than that.
So hopefully I can move my truck soon and either buy or trade for a runner. I'll update when it happens.

update:
Just sold my cruiser. I'm now actively looking for a low miles third gen. If you know of any for sale in the southeast shoot me a link. My budget is going to be about 8-9k after all is said and done. I I would like to find something stock for around 5k and then putting it together myself, but I'm not opposed to buying one partially built for more and just adjusting it to my taste.
Looking forward to the new rig.
