I also tried a couple of the moonet ones from amazon and they also didn't work for me.
Do you have a link to the ebay seller for the USA SPEC one that worked for you?
Thanks

Okay looks like a couple questions came up here -

1) Use of existing changer - I don't believe that the DF-TOY system would allow a direct use of both the changer and the aux, although I'm thinking you could create a splitter with some soldering and a switch if you really wanted to preserve the changer.

2) The ebay seller I used only had one unit, out of his own car. It looks like the DF-TOY has been discontinued for some time but USA-SPEC may have follow-up units or there could be other units from other companies. It seems like the biggest thing is that you actually need a unit that converts the signal rather than just a change in the connector like the moonet units.

3) The current setup I have doesn't have bluetooth out of the box, but I've been considering buying a bluetooth dongle to plug into the aux cord (might also get a microphone and mount it on the visor)

Glad to hear it worked for you but you must be very lucky I purchased 2 of these from 2 different sellers on amazon and neither worked!
Also the connector shown in this link is the wrong connector for 3rd Gen OEM radios we need a 5x7 pin connector which is physically much larger then the one shown in the image.

Hey, did you ever find an aux unit for your unit? I have the same unit: 2002 Limited with an integrated 6 CD player (not an external changer). Will this work?

I used to have a 2007 Avalon. It has a large double DIN screen that controlled the radio as well as HVAC, etc, The obvious solution would have been to just buy an aftrmarket radio but there was no way to recover the HCAV. Not an optimum design.

I found a company called GROM Audio in Los Angelos. Bought a unit and plugged it into the CD changer. It worked well and the customer service was great. I saved the unit when I sold the car..... and will install it soon in the 4runner after ordering the correct installation cable. There are different options for AUX input, Bluetooth, and USB.

So if you like the factory feel this will do it this might be a good option. But you will get more functionality for the money by buying aftermarket.

I use a similar product that @heat suggested. You can see it in my build thread.

Hey folks. I've got a '97 stereo with a single disc player. I'm looking to keep my OEM CD player and add an aux. I'm not looking to go the Scion route.

Just ordered a USA-SPEC DF TOY and PA-15 TOY (got both of em on eBay for less than $30 total). From what I know the DF TOY only works with the 6 CD changer 4Runners. I'm wondering if anyone knows the model number of the stereo's compatible with the DF TOY, it just says 98-2002. I can't find it anywhere. I don't have a JBL system, but am wondering if it's still possible to use a JBL system in my vehicle and if it would be plug and play?

In terms of the PA-15 TOY I see that it's compatible with Highlander and Rav 4 Stereos from around that time. Anyone know of models of Highlander or Rav 4 stereos that would fit into a 3rd gen? Going to do some digging at the junk yard if that's possible. Really tough to find threads about putting other OEM stereo's from other Totoya vehicles of that time.
PA15-TOY
