Door Open Warning Light *not* working

2001 SR5 4WD, a modest 210K miles: my wife & I bought this truck brand new and it continues to work amazingly well

I finally got around to replacing a few worn & broken things like the cracked headlight & turn signal lenses and decided to go ahead with HIDs & LEDs inside & out. HUGE difference, now I can actually see things at night before I run over them! I disassembled & cleaned the entire dash and (thanks to those who posted their experience here!) replaced all the switch & cluster bulbs with LEDs with full success

I now have 1 open issue: the Door Open Warning Light no longer lights up (lower-left corner of cluster warning light section). I switched back to a known-good filament bulb, with no success. Everything else works great! Door chime makes annoying sound, front & rear dome lights come on when front or rear doors open, so the circuitry & door open/close switches are all working, opening the rear hatch turns on the rear dome light. All other cluster & panel bulbs are nice & bright, function when they should... i have no regrets. There are no CEL codes, and I zero-cal'd the rate sensors to cancel the VSC/TRAK warning lights. I've looked everywhere for info on the open door warning circuit diagram & troubleshooting for this feature - nothing in the FSM and couldn't find anything online. Sure - lots of talk about disabling this but I would really like it to work otherwise my greyhound might sneak out the rear hatch on a long drive Does anyone else have experience with this?

Thanks and the forum is full of great info

Phil

Are you using an incad or an led bulb with polarity reversed?

Brilliant - thanks for responding. I switched this warning light back to an OEM bulb (I confirmed the bulb worked by installing it in another cluster location) no joy

if a door is open, the front/back/hatch dome light should turn on (assuming the dome light's switch is set to "open") so that should keep me out of trouble for the moment. this isn't a good solution because an open-door condition isn't real obvious during the day and would drain the battery, hence the warning light in the cluster

I'm gonna remove the cluster & check to see if all the traces are intact, maybe I shorted something and it burned through when I was having my way with it

Well, a quick look at the EWD reveals that the various doors all connect individually to the cluster, and the power to the indicator is supplied by the same fuse that powers the dome lights (DOME fuse). So, if the bulb is good, the only possible fault is internal to the cluster, unless there is a fail in the DOME fuse connection to cluster. That is a blue-yellow wire at Pin 12 of Plug C28. Plug C28 is a 12-pin two-row blue plug and Pin 12 is the farthest right in the bottom row looking at the plug from the front with the lock tab on top. So I'd also check that that wire is supplying full-time 12V+ to the cluster.

Problem identified & solved! the flexboard trace was damaged. I probably grounded it on something while removing & re-inserting the LEDs in the bayonet plugs to ensure polarity while the cluster was *hot*. That's what I get for being lazy. repaired the damaged section with a Circuit Writer pen, dried it quickly with a heat gun (the "ink" won't conduct until it's dry) and all is well.
