Secondly, some recent work that has been done to the ole girl.

I sadly had a bit of a fender bender a couple of weeks ago. I rear-ended a stock taco and the Addicted Offroad cross member did exactly what it was designed to which was save my frame, and arguably saved the Tacoma from a ton of damage.

First I'll start with dashcam footage of this lovely incident from the @_Ripcord who was behind me. Basically a bicyclist just rolled out in front of a bunch of cars doing 35-40 mph and this is what happens.

Untitled

Then here's the damage.

Untitled

Taco faired well. New Tail Gate skin and bobs your uncle.

So the only thing that really happened is the cross member bent in on impact and broke my grill because the winch literally touched it. So any movement just broke off the plastic.

9A0A1782

9A0A1770

Now to the fix. Round 1 while I waited on more parts.
So, first I cut out the Addicted Cross Member in the center just for ease. Mine was fully welded on so for now just the middle came out.

9A0A1896

That gained me access to this bent AF skid mount. Made a new one, welded that in.

9A0A1923

I then re-did all my nasty wiring and painted some things, installed some cleaner blinkers that actually work.

Then Scotty stopped by with a new Cross Member and I went to town!

Time to cut these off. RIP...

Cleaned up.

Painted it then installed the bumper. Deadlifted this bad boy with the winch and bolted it up by myself by some miracle haha.

9A0A2822

Trimmed the grill, plugged everything in, and yea. Back to 99%. Need an emblem for the new grill, put on new corner lights and my fogs dont have power for some reason. So, another day another problem but feels good to have the hard work out of the way.

Awesome clean-up job! Glad to see the cross member that AOR likes to put in did its thing. A likely naive question from a newbie (currently scheming the upgrades to an '01 T4R), since you've got experience, does anybody recommend an extra cross member for a rear bumper? I am looking at the 4xI plate bumper.

You totally could make one. I would cut out the old Spare Tire mount cross member and just make a beefier version. I run the 4xI bumper and have not modified the rear end of the frame other than Poly Body mounts in the back.

Cool thanks - figured as much but I'm unsure of priority (thinking low for now).

Also have been looking at the Kings up front and see you've got those. Still running about 0.5 inch lift and finding that plenty? I don't see a body lift, and I wasn't planning on that (though am planning poly bushings to prep for the 4xI rear bumper).

Yes, I've cut a lot and like keeping my weight as low as possible. It sits very low in the front and still has plenty of clearance with the 35's.

Sweet rig man, I've been watching all your youtube videos, and this is pretty much exactly what I want my future 4runner to look like.

I picked up some Extreme LED 5" Round Rally Lights and got them mounted up. Love this style on the bumper way more than a bar. Fits the year of the vehicle a whole lot better I think.

I really dig those lights. They look sharp on the rig. How do you like the output? Are they focused or are they flood style? Once I get my "changeling build" back together, I will be looking at adding some nice lights.

They are definitely more of a flood which is great until you're going fast down a dirt road at night. They do outpace my projectors though so still bright as hell. But nothing like a nice set of Baja Desings LP6 or something. For the price though... worth it.

Your patch job gave me the will power to finally do it once it was all apart. It is nice to think the skid plate up there is pretty well bulletproof now. Definitely changed a lot, but I am loving it.

Some life updates and some 4runner pics.

First off, I graduate from CSU in a couple of weeks which is awesome. I wont be able to have a graduation ceremony till December thanks to this Covid-19 bull ish but got to do what we got to do.

Being that I am graduating and my birthday was last week, I treated myself and drove out to Salt Lake City to pick up a new vehicle. I bought a 2006 GMC Sierra with a 6.6l LBZ Duramax with an Allison tranny. The thing is a beast and is super clean. It needs some maintenance work but nothing crazy. Excited to have something to drive around town, tow the runner and do truck things with.

Here she is in all her glory.

I have also just been out and about using the 4runner, no crazy wheeling. My Moab trip got canceled but did get to enjoy some time in southern Utah.

And some other fun trips.
