Anyone running Tundra/Bilsteins up front for 3" lift?

Anyone running Tundra/Bilsteins up front for 3" lift? If so what are you running in the rear. I've got the Tundra/Bilsteins in front and 906 in rear for 2" but want to go to 3". What perch will give you 3" and what did you do to rear? I thought about trim packers for rear or new springs. What have you done or what combo works best? Thanks.

I'm running your current setup with 2" of lift. Not sure of the perch settings, but most will tell you that Sonoran Steel's setup for 3" is the best around using the Tundra Coils and 5100s. I believe he goes to an LC coil out back. Just realize when you go that extra inch, you have to start addressing drive line issues with aftermarket pan hard bar and front diff drop. Check out Sonoran's website, some great info there concerning his 1.2, 7.2 and rear only kits.

From how I understand SS keeps his on lowest perch for 2" lift. He recommends this for best ride quality. You can go up a perch to get around 2.5".

I've got the tundra coils and 5100's in the front on the lowest perch, gave me 2/2.5" in the front, and 890's in the rear for ~2.5/3". I personally like the slight rake, and it rides way better than stock. If I go aftermarket bumper on either end I'll up it a bit, but haven't needed to yet. (raise the front to the second perch, and 891's or maybe even superflexes/LC7.5's)

Lots of information out there though. A quick search will give you some pictures too.

I have the tundra Billies up front but run Tacoma coils Passenger on 3rd driver on 4th perch for lean. Im pretty sure I have 8wraps from an LC80 out back with Monroe LC shocks. I'm a cheap ass so I got either freebies or craigslist finds and warehouse deals from amazon for the billies. I was going to spend on the SS but some folks talked me out of it because you can pretty much piece it together for way less.

This is how it sits unloaded.

I just purchased from toytec the tundra 5100's front and rear. I used toytec super flex in the rear and the toytec branded eibach springs up front. The front I put on the middle perch and I'm over 3" by a little but it hasn't really settled. I just brought it for an alignment today.

I have tundra 5100's using 07 FJ coils front and rear. Gave right about 2" of lift on the 2nd notch. Setup is best used with a 10mm trimpacker on the drivers and 5mm trimpacker on the passenger side (rears). Pretty even and cheap lift with outstanding ride quality. If I wanted to go 3", I add in different rear springs and kick the fronts up a notch. However the ride quality is so good - not going to bother for the extra 1".

Jhelms,
I just put some fj rear springs in and noticed the driver side lean. Where did you pick up the trimpackers? I'd like to get a set. Thanks!

I snagged mine off ebay. Just buy what you need. Example, if you need 10mm more on the drivers, only run a 10mm on that side. If you need only 5mm on the drivers side but want to pick up the arse end a bit, go 10mm drivers and 5mm passenger side. Very subtle height difference as 5mm is less than 1/4" to note.

I also will be installing this next week an airlift airbag setup for the rear for load level control. With my trailer and all camping gear with everyone loaded in the gunner, the arse sits much lower than I want. With the kit, Hope to keep it as pictured fully loaded down.

just be careful with FJ cruiser rear springs if you wheel it a lot. The ride is very smooth but not really for articulation. You risk the possibility of popping a spring out.

I had 5th gen 4Runner rear springs out back for a while and netted about 1.5-2" and the ride is Cadillac but found their limits pretty quick off-roading.

Good advice - could happen I guess but I did have to unbolt the shocks to get them in and even then it was not a loose fit. With shocks in place, max extension (stock 4runner 5100's mind you) I cannot see one coming out as they were very snug from memory. BUT.... on the flip side, I am not a hardcore wheeler. Just camping / expedition trips.

So for what most would considered mild offroading, they are a damn fine setup! I have zero need or want to go further than what I am running now. For the places I go, I have never even come close to having any issues and the ride is very nice.

Thanks for replies. I'm considering go up to next perch and using OME 890 or 891 in the rear. If anyone is running this is like to here from you.

I am running the exact combo you're talking about. Tundra 5100s with the TRD coils up front and 890s in the rear. On the second perch my front hub to flare measurement went from 19" to 22". The rear is a bit higher, even when I have the 50 pounds or so of tools and fluids and two 100 pound dogs in the back. With the stock bumpers, there's no noticeable sag, and it seems to be even side-to-side, or at least not enough to notice. The current ride quality is super soft and marshmallowy, which is a bit exaggerated by my lack of sway bars currently.

Thanks for the info. This may be the way I go! I was wondering about the ride quality of the 890s as well and you answered that!
