Started truck for first time in three years.

engine won't come off a 1,400 rpm idle. let it run for about three minutes before i shut it off. no CEL. only thing I can think of is a vacuum leak. i did install a AIRAID intake I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it?

3 Years?? If it really has been sitting for 3 years I bet the IAC is stuck.

If all the fluids look good give it a short drive to warm it good and see what happens.

Stale fuel in lines? Assuming it was left in the gas tank for that duration...

I second this. Mine sat for while, like two months, and had high idle. Turned out IAC was stuck.

i did not clean the maf. it sat on a dusty shelf for three years. it was still attached to the air box so it didn't get damaged or anything

Not sure what he did, but my truck had this same symptom when I first got it, and it was a bad IAC. Replaced it with a new one, and that solved it.

If you have another you can swap it with, try it. Easy job.

Well mine is a 97 so you can take the IAC apart and clean it. Don't think you can do that with later models though now that I think about it can you?

The valve mechanism was just frozen up with crud. Used qtips and throttle body cleaner.

Edit: oh and you can test it once it's off with a battery and some leads. I found a writeup somewhere

Yep, ditto on my 98. I pulled mine off, cleaned it, threw it back on--no dice. Pulled it off again and battery tested it to determine that it wasn't working, so I nabbed a new one off Ebay for $75.

I had read enough posts, then and since, to assure me that it's not that uncommon for that part to pack it in, so replacing it didn't seem imprudent in any event.

to the first post, no CEL does not mean no CODE.

You have to look at the ''pending codes'' too, with a OBDII scanner, that might hold your answer. I vote for the IAC valve too, also look at every connection since you played with your intake.

You'd have to drive around a bit so the truck completes some cycling before you see pending codes light-up your check engine light.

What makes u think something is wrong... 3MIN heck given outside temp and various other factors let that thing run for a little longer than 3 min before assuming u have a issue.. Let the ECM go into closed loop u should see the RPM drop.
