I bought this dual sided extendable ratchet from Harbor Freight last summer for a job I thought "the extension could be handy" on... It's turned into my favorite ratchet at this point and I keep it in my tool bag in my car with me now

A friend at work shown me this thinking I could use it. It’s a connector depinning tool.
Round, flat etc....it was 10 dollars on amazon. If I use it two times it pays for itself. Usually I use a micro screwdriver or small paper clip to push up the barb holding connectors in their sockets.

By far not my most used tool, but by far the most useful tool to complete a somewhat otherwise tedious task with otherwise high potential for error.....

I assume an off brand version would be just as handy....

A proper thread chaser kit. Wish it went up to M16s but oh well. This is better than the craftsman kit albeit its only metric but it has the M10x1.25 which is common bolt on the 4runner.

Amazon.com: Lang Tools 2584 15-Piece Metric Thread Restorer Set: Automotive
I have 3 tap/die sets. The massive/big Harbor freight metric set and 2 smaller sets (metric and sae). Cheap? Yes, but on the FJ40 that was rusted to help it was probably the 2nd most tool used (behind the welder).

They are exceptionally useful. On my 3rd gen I dont even.think they've come out yet...

Similar, I think, but my set is much older (10 years?) And in a steel case. Goes up to M24.

Titanium Nitride Coated Alloy Steel Metric Tap & Die Set, 45 Pc.

I've had to supplement a couple that are missing from the ser, but very useful.

I like this tap and die set from GearWrench. GearWrench is one of my favorite tool companies to buy from. I own a fair amount of their toolsets.

Here's a tool review we did recently of Gear Wrench tools I own. I did forget to review the tap and die set.

I have the bigger Lang set. It has worked well for me for close to a decade.

If anyone needs a recommendation for an impact as an Xmas gift, I have used this Milwaukee for close to a year and have nothing but good things to say about it. I may have only linked the tool, not the kit:

Have you encountered any automotive fasteners it hasn't been able to remove yet? Crank bolt? Just curious bc I have an m12 drill/hammer drill, impact drill & extra batteries.

Is it rated in inch pounds or foot pounds of torque?

I bought the 1/2 craftsman corded impact until I get my new shop setup with the electricity to use my air compressor. It’s long though......

We use the 1/2” and 3/8” dewalt impacts at work all the time. But that’s industry and not automotive.

Crank bolt (cue the Metabo here) as well as some CV axle nuts along with some rusted exhaust manifold bolts that had to be torched off. Otherwise the thing has been an absolute beast. I love the size but also the ability to scale the level of torque when removing and tightening. With a 6.0 battery it can last all day. In fact on one battery the impacting broke the cheap plastic housing that holds every battery, rendering it useless without some duct tape.

I would buy one hands down all day long...

Also I hope you have made some headway with the tranny noise? Sometimes those noises can be hard to nail down when armchairing.

The 3/8 Milwaukee impact is rated at 250 ft/lbs. I have a small 1/2 metabo 295 ft/lb & large 1/2 ingersoll rand 1000 ft/lb impact both cordless but wouldn't mind a smaller 3/8 impact mainly bc i already have a couple of their m12 tools. If the 3/8 Milwaukee has enough power to remove crank bolts that would be a huge bonus.

If you have removed crank bolts & axle nuts with that Milwaukee then you may have just sold me on another tool. I also have a couple 6.0 m12 batteries.

I'm going to pick up a mechanics stethoscope to have a little more confirmation on the sound because when I was trying to listen the other day it seemed like it could be coming from the cat/manifold region of the exhaust. I really appreciate the help. I'll update the other thread with what I find.

Goshdarnit, LittleCaesar!! I wish I didn't see your post.

So, the other day I was wrenching at the yards removing a locked rear end off a 'Runner. I had my trusty Milwaukee 1/2'' impact with me, and it took care of most of the heavy hitter bolts, but due to its inherent size, it was hard to get it to fit inside where the upper trailing arms bolts are located. At that moment, I was literally saying, "man, I wish they made a smaller version of this so I could use it here!"

Yep, so I think I'm going to pull the trigger on that stubby. It fits the bill, and most of the time I'm just taking wheels off and other light duty jobs, so 250 FT/LBS should be plentyy. It's cumbersome taking this 1/2'' impact with me. Weighs a crap ton, but I do love it! It's the only tool that sits warm and safe in my room. Yeah, I'm weird.
