Sliding under a lifted car/truck is a RISK. If you plan to go under that man made stuff, expect the worst. Be ready. Place the maximum number of supports you can find. If that falls, that is the end of the life. You will miss everything in your life. So be ready for worst and be prepared.

Since the jack he was using is intact, it must not have been the lock wasn't fully engaged like he surmised. Once the weight of the truck is on a jack stand that is properly placed on a frame member, axle or wherever, short of an earth quake, I don't see there being a huge concern working under the truck. But, redundancy is good and placing removed tires underneath or keeping the hydraulic jack in place is a good idea. I think most accidents are due to people working under a vehicle with just a hydraulic jack for support, like the one that comes with the truck and fits under the back seat.

Accidents happen and I'm glad Ol' Shooter wasn't flattened.

WHERE to lift using farm jack?

I have a 5th Gen 4runner that I lifted a good 4-5 inches. I took the plastic off where the running boards were but never put rail sliders. I can't use a bottle jack anymore. WHERE can I put the farm jack to lift up my 4runner if I need to change a tire in an emergency?

I bet it was made in either USA, Germany, or Japan.

none. unless you have steel bumper(s) and sliders

you'll need to bring a block of wood, maybe two, to compensate for the lift

Should still be fine on the rear axle tube. I use a regular floor jack on the front LCA but I'm not sure I want the bottle jack there.

I put the bottle jack between those 3 round bolt heads under the LCA and it seems to work fine.

The factory emergency jack will work just fine under either the rear axle or the front control arm. For emergecy use, of course. At home, floor jack under rear diff and jack stands on the outer ends of the axle along with the jacking point in the front/center and jack stands under the frame rails behind the front tires.

Thank you

I will keep the bottle jack. In the meantime I had ordered a bottle jack with a extended jack stand that is factory welded onto the bottle jack. It extends the height, sort of a 2 in 1.
