Is this simply the Techstream cable available on Amazon and eBay for between $30 and $70? It's used in conjunction with a laptop.
Thanks,
Eddie
That's the one. Mine came from China with poorly written instructions. I had to install and remove it a couple times before I installed it correctly and it worked for me. If you have an older laptop with windows 7 or older that would probably work best. It doesn't like windows 8 or newer OS
Hi all, I have a 1997 SR5 V6 3.4L automatic with 245k miles on her. About a month ago the engine was running rough and a little shaky at stops. Read a P0304 cylinder 4 misfire code. Next day I couldn't get it to start. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, ignition coils, and nothing.... I replaced the cylinder 4 fuel injector yesterday and shes up and running.
The engine still has a bit of a shake (not nearly as bad), but I want to stay on top of it. I let it idle for a while and drove it around some with no change. Any ideas what else could cause that rumble?
Check the simple things first:
Clean/replace your Air filter, if necessary.
Clean the MAF sensor.
Clean the throttle body.
Check your vacuum hoses.
Test your alternator
Check your belts and tensioners to make sure things are snug and not lose or over tightened.

I have a 99 4Runner I purchased it about two weeks ago it’s the 4Runner I always wanted but it has vibration. I took it to a mechanic and they told me that the driveshaft and I joints were good but they were installed wrong. They fixed it but it still has slight vibration not as bad as when I first got the truck. Should I just replace the whole driveshaft start new or what should I do? Please any comments help I do not want to think I made a bad purchase. That is the only thing I feel is wrong with it and it’s the 4Runner I always wanted lol.

Go get your tires balanced and maybe have the alignment checked as well. That could also cause vibrations. Does it happen at all speeds, or is it more pronounced at particular speeds?

It only vibrates above 50mph not as bad as before but I can still feel it . I’ll take it this weekend to check all that out I hope that’s all it is lol.

Like weekendclimber stated, you should check to see if your wheels are balanced; maybe a wheel weight fell off?
Also, you should get a friend to turn y our steering wheel while you check your steering rack and pinion bushings to see if there's play. If so, replace those because that could also be an issue.
In a worse off scenario, you might have some bad wheel bearings

ok, i appreciate the research and development and manufacturing and parts specing/sourcing that goes into OEM parts. BUT WHY IN THE HELL do Toyota parts cost so much more than aftermarket parts??? Just priced parts for a tune-up on my 2000 4runner 3.4 V6 (plugs, wires, coil packs), and figured may as well replace the injectors while i was at it, as I would have to make the same tear-down for injector replacement that has to be done for a tune-up (appears the original injectors were still in service ay 240K miles, bless 'em). But $560 !!!???
I did some research/checking (semi-retired attorney, computer research has made me a lot of money) and found NEW injectors, spec dual electro plugs, 3 coil packs and wires, and the throttle body and plenum gaskets (necessary replacements when you take the fuel injection system apart to get to the coil packs and plugs), all for less than $200 delivered to my door, on Ebay.
Yes, I would rather buy from the dealer. Yes, I would love to have that close relationship with people I would like to depend on to maintain my daily transportation. Yes. I have bought a few beers for dealer service managers and dealer techs in my past years. And I have learned, and I am sure the reader knows, to build a $30K car from the parts sourced from the dealership parts department would cost $100K. A real pity, and an open secret.
I cut my teeth wrenching on '60s and '70s muscle and "fun" cars. After watching Timmy the Tool Man and a few other videos, I see nothing to prevent me from tuning up this little fuel-injected V6, but dealer parts prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I understand "Toyota reliability" that is engineered into, and expected from, the branded parts. But when shop managers tell me they regularly use Ebay parts to cut overhead, why should I pay dealer service prices for something I can do myself, with the same Ebay parts??
I need some help, I've looked everywhere and I can't find it. So i have no abs relay but there is a wire jumping it. Would that cause me to have no cruse control if there is no relay on my 2k 4r with 289k on the clock? Thanks for the help everyone!!

I would never trust ebay for a toyota part required to run correctly. Many have and it's caused them nothing but troubles trying to diagnose a problem they caused by using ebay knock offs. They end up having to use toyota OEM parts or remanufactured parts. Lots of threads on here about it. Especially ebay/amazon injectors.
There's no reason to replace fuel injectors or coil packs unless they have failed. They aren't a regular wear item like spark plugs and there are many 4Runners with original injectors and coil packs that are still running great. If it ain't broke then don't fix it.
Does anyone know a good factory Toyota headunit that would bolt right into the factory slot? I have a 98 base and all it has is a tape player and a regular radio. The screen broke recently so I figured now would be a good time to replace it with one from the same era, just with a CD and tape player as opposed to just a tape player.
