Hey guys, some of you may know my situation with the 4runner I just got from my bro. If you want to see the details, it can be found
here
Anyways, I installed the rear suspension I got from Kurt (used springs and KYB shocks but in great condition) which immediately made a huge difference from the old blown shocks. There was a clunking noise which I figured was from the blown shocks. The noise is now mostly gone but it still makes some noise when going over rough roads ect.
I of course went under the rear with a mallet and some gloves and started pulling and tapping on stuff. Everything seems to be nice and firm (control arm/bushings upper and lower), *new shocks and so on.
The only thing that does make noise is the rear track bar (pan hard bar). When I tap on it with a mallet it makes a metal on metal noise. My guess is the bushing are pretty worn out. I also can push and pull on the bar and get some movement out of it. I would imagine that the weight of the vehicle really gets it moving when going over bumps. This also explains why the rear axle has a "loose" feel to it when I go over bumps or rough patches in the road.
I'm pretty confident this is the source of my noise. I did a search but I cannot find anyone that sells replacement bushings for the rear track bar. Do you have to buy an entire new track bar? Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can either replace the bushings or where I can get a replacement track bar for cheap? The scrap yards around here are pretty scarce so I'm not sure if I could even find a used one, let alone one that is in good shape.
Thanks for the help!
