Did you wire the battery in as an auxiliary, or are you just using it separately for secondary power source? It looks like just a standalone secondary power source from the pics?

It would be interesting to have a main/aux battery setup with solar charging. Although you'd have to be careful to keep one battery charged enough for starting duty.

Actually a water tank is planned for where the spare tire is. I’m currently saving my money for this...

I plan on getting the dual jerry can for the ladder as well.

The house battery is primarily going to be for fridge, lighting, inverter etc similar to RVs. I’m running 2/0 gauge back there so i’ll be able to link the batteries in emergencies with a push of a button on the smart solenoid. Solar is 100% in the plan.

currently saving up for the cable cause it isn’t exactly cheap and neither is the AGM.

Some super lame updates:

After using the drawer several trips now i’ve decided to carpet the whole inside of the drawer for noise dampening. I’m also going to make a divider or two BUT i’m going to make them adjustable and Velcro loves this carpet soo....

I will also run some C channel along the top for durability and strength.

Since i’m super cheap and everything I do and have done to this point has been pondered and number crunched I’ve decided on an $8 test of a warm/hot water shower for now. Black flat bumper paint which I had and a sprayer from your local shit show (aka Wal-Mart). I’m not looking for anything more than a rinse and as an experienced RVer I’m pretty good with the On-> rinse->Off->soap->on->rinse->off program.

ALSO booked a spot for April 15th-16th in Joshua Tree National Park. We are stoked! This will be on our way back from....DisneylandAZBubs poor man build and budget Adventures.. We wanted to camp near the beach but apparently got a beach house in Newport instead. Ohh well.

We also Joined Overland Bound. AZBubs Member #11192.

Nice drawers man!

Looking forward to some more pics of the AZ to WA trip. That's a long haul. I'm sure its a trip well deserved.

Whelp Wal Mart wont carry and apparently Mobil will not be making Mobil Super High Mileage any more. So after much pondering I found Valvoline Max Life which is a synth blend for roughly the same price. American owned and operated it says. And as always the XL WIX. Happy 4Runner. Gotta keep that 22.4mpg average!

It is a nice tool but i’ve done enough research to not entirely trust them on load bearing stuff.

AZBubs poor man build and budget Adventures.

Not too much new in build side of things, more on the adventure side.

I always wanted to go the back way in to Mt Lemmon in Tucson so we went. A lot of people insisted the road was closed due to winter weather. Quite honestly we haven’t had much of that here in AZ. The ski slope on Mt Lemmon never opened this year. Does that say anything? So we picked up and went cause it’s the adventure of finding out yourself right? So we met up with one other local guy in Queen Creek AZ and hit the road through some beautiful desert to Oarcle where we met our CBP friend and virgin 4Runner and headed up the mountain to pop it’s cherry.

Halfway up the mountain trail we decided to stretch our legs and take in the view. Lots of remote areas for the true overlander up here. We passed a couple rigs on our way in to Oarcle.

We gawked for a while at the scenery...

And came to the “closed gate”....

We went on through and the scenery quickly changed to pine forest.

We stared at the view of tiny little Oarcle, AZ below us and thought about the trip.

This is where we went our separate path from the super nice GX470 with v8 and Toytec lift. My wife now wants one..

It was a fun trip. I had hoped to get some drone footage but there was quite a bit of wind. Wife and I will probably go back and make a weekend out of it and get some great footage.

Did a little more wiring. Got solar charger wired to fuse block and leads run to battery holder.

I’m having a dilemma with how I want to run the cable to my house battery. I want to use 1/0 gauge, not sure if it’s overkill for my application since the ONLY time I would link the batteries would be for a jump. I can’t decide if I really want to run 1/0 under my carpet inside or run it through the frame rail back to where it would enter.

This looks like where this stuff is going to have to go. Breaker has to be as close to main battery as possible.
