Fox 2.5 Coilover questions. (Decision Time / Group Buy)

I feel like I am a bit late to the party on this one, but I had a couple of questions about Fox coilovers.

I have been researching a lot of lift options over the past year. I have a 2002 4runner with 265/75/16 BFG KO2s. I currently have a SW front bumper that will be replaced by a AOR front plate bumper, and at some point a winch. This is my DD, but I have been slowly working towards building it up, (mostly maintenance so far: OTR, ITR, LBJs.. blah, blah, blah). Now I am looking towards a lift. I don't plan on crazy rock crawling or super hard stuff just yet. I want a capable build that is very overland capable.

I had mostly settled on a Toytech Boss complete lift, as I wanted an adjustable coilover up front and perhaps superflex or OME 890s or OME 891s in the rear... possibly LC 7 wraps.

But I noticed the Total Automotive is offering a FOX group buy that ends... tomorrow.

Comparing the cost of the Boss coilovers to the Fox.. The fox coilovers are not that much more, (non extended regular length) compared to the Toytech Boss system. I wouldn't be going for extended travel. I would be going for the regular travel, (2.5 Front Coilover Reg Travel - 883-02-024), as I might hold off on getting new UCAs down the road.

Does anybody know the Fox CO spring weights? Will the springs accommodate aftermarket bumpers, and/or winch?

Anybody running Fox coilovers want to chime in on how they like them?

Thanks for reading!

I believe you can order them with larger springs.

The are ether 600lbs springs or 650

My truck has kings with 3.0-14-650 springs. 3.0 inside diameter. 14" tall. 650 lbs. I have a tube bumper with stinger and winch.

you will want the 650 or 700 with a plate bumper and winch. So I would just order them and request those higher spring rate springs.

Those fox ones are much better then the boss system. Much much better. Get the fox.

(Now don't be confused by the cheaper shock style fox/fab tech. You want actual coil overs with a 2.5" valve body for dampening.)

My Fox extended travel remote reservoir coil-overs do the trick nicely when combined with Camburg (or the like) upper control arms. I had All-Pro arms but couldn't get get the max travel I wanted out of the extended coil overs.

Anyways, they take a beating and keep going - a rebuild is on the horizon and I may install the DSC valve. I'm kinda missing it after installing 12" shocks in the rear which don't have it.

Quality over quantity - buy it once and eat the cost once. There are other options but at the moment Fox produces some kit.

EDIT - and I swear that the ones I ordered aren't for a 4Runner but for a Tacoma. I had to modify the shock tower for clearance of the RR hose and fittings (slight trimming) but they fit other than that.

Thanks for the reply shootmymime!

I am looking at these specifically.

Factory Series CoilOvers - Total Automotive Performance - Your Source for Auto Parts and Accessories

It might just be their website, but they don't provide a lot of optional information, just the basics of what you are ordering. They don't provide much in the way of specs, or options to dial something in. I appreciate the information because they are not open on the weekend to field questions.

It seems like the higher end coilovers have less info about spring rates and what not overall. I noticed the same thing when I was looking at Kings. I have read that they are a progressive coil, but haven't been able to find much more besides Fox stating somewhere that they use Eibach springs.

Although, one advantage that King offers is that they offer options for the rear too if you ever get to that point. The Fox and Kings seem to be a similar price point with the Fox COs being a bit more expensive. And as far as gleaming information from other people's user experiences, it seems that it goes Icon, King, and somewhere down the road Fox concerning frequency of what I see people use. Most of the threads that I read about Fox seem to be a few years old.
