Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.
Sheesh there are too many frigging options for lifting your truck 2-3 inches. I can't make headwind of which way I want to go except I know I want a suspension lift and not a body lift. Idk if I want 2 inches and then later regret not going 3, or go 3 and do the other precautions to make sure things don't break (diff drop, pan hard extenisons, extended brake lines). Mostly I don't want to spend a ton of money lol (who does honestly haha).

Are you gonna wheel your truck? If so, DON'T cheap out. Get EVERYTHING you need. I spent $3k on parts + install for my suspensions + control arms.
I dont regret it.

I did the coil over kit from toytec. Spent 1k on them and got the diff drop and extended brake lines. Then did the lc 8 wraps in the rear. Worked well for years just finally getting to some control arms. With this kit you can adjust the front down to 2" and just add weight to the rear to match it.

@ Bijan
Va is fairly mild so every where I have gone stock I have had zero issues, but yes I do wheel but not trying to crawl up a 40" wall Looking to lift just to get a little more clearance. I'd love to have a super nice setup but I'm not worried at the end of the day.

@ Tucson4runner
Thanks for the input! You are happy with how the toytec setup rides?

I did a 2 inch lift
And as soon as the tires touched the ground i knew i should of went 3
I dident go the full 3 at the time because i was worried about the same thing u are
Diff drop rear brake lines
But after reading, a diff drop is no big deal to install
And rear extended brake lines are not really needed till maybe 4 inches or rear lift
If your on the fence between 2 and 3 inches just do the 3 i think you will be happy overall

2.5"!
I did the tundra coils up front with the 5100's and got right about 2/2.5" on the lowest setting. If I move it up one then I'd be at 3" if I want. But it matches well with the OME 890's in the rear and rides great. Once I put some weight in the back it'll be perfectly level and ride even better

If you think 2" wont be enough. Believe me when I say it WONT BE ENOUGH. You will wish time down you did a full 3" lift. 2" on a 1996 will bring it back to a 99 ride height and wont even look lifted.
I agree if you plan on hitting trails. You will want 3" and everything you need to make it run right. Dont skimp out. Remember once you hit those trails that stuff like UCA, LCA bushings, ball joints, tie rods, will all start to wear out and if original will most likely need replacing soon after.

I'll try to be un-biased... ;D
I went with 2inch lift... tundra 5100's on all 4 corners
springs I went stock 99 talls up front and 906 in rear
I sit at 36.25 at each corner from ground after the lift.
my reasons... I'm not a rock crawler, so I do stay away from harder trails. I really only bought the shocks and rear springs and gained more clearance with a really nice ride, I invested less than $500 for new suspension and can run 285/70r16 nitto's (don't have yet)
Later I plan on a 1inch body lift to run 285/75r16's this will help clear the pinch welds better and keep the suspension simple.
so 2inch for suspension simplicity and 1inch body lift if I need it for the larger tires... I probably will though.

I am happy with it. I got the medium weight shocks because I was running some weight up front and they rode well on and off road, way better then stock. I was in an accident and had to remove my front bumper and now it rides a little stiffer then before but not bad.

I just got tundra coills/struts up front for 300 and LC coils in rear for 75, pretty good deal for a lift if you ask me, also picked up diff drop from wheelers offroad for 26, also a great place for the price

I Just had the Toytec/Blistein 3" lift kit installed, ($750 from Toytec) and I think they are adjustable so you could drop them if desired. Mine are set all the way to 3" and I have a set of 285/75/16s on which dont rub at all.
They look great and ride great. I had OEM suspension and 225 tires on before. I got about 5" of height from the tires and 3" suspension lift. Sitting 8" Higher, feels like I'm riding in a Mack Truck now.

I did Tacoma 5100's with OME 881 springs up front, 5100's in rear with OME 891's. all from
@ YotaDan
and Wheelers Offroad. Could not be happier. set on second perch, I got about 2.5" all around, will easily clear the 255/85's I plan to run and ride like a dream. Currently on 265/75's
