I'm a long time car enthusiast and actually sell cars for a living here in NJ. My main love was always fast cars and 1/4 mile racing and I've had a few different ones including a pullied + bolt-ons '04 Cobra and a fully built 1G DSM. I've also had plenty of trucks/suvs since I'm big into the outdoors with hunting and fishing including a few lifted trucks my personal favorite being a '94 Bronco with a 351 on 37s with a 8" lift and 4.56s.

These days I haven't had a cool ride in quite sometime so when I took this 2001 4Runner SR5 Sport in on trade 2 months ago with only 88k on it I had to jump all over it(if you knew how cheap I got it for you probably wouldn't believe me). This is how she looked the first day I saw the truck:

The vehicle was one-owner and garage kept all it's life. I was actively looking for something to tow my 16' aluminum boat and for hunting so this fit the bill perfectly. I won't be dd'ing it as I have a demo for work so this will only be driven maybe once or twice a week. The truck is in pristine shape and already had the t-belt done. The original owner already had a double din head-unit installed with streaming bluetooth, gps and an ipod charging cable so for now the stereo is everything I need. He also had a cold air intake with heat shield installed as well. When I bought the truck I had 0 intentions of modding it and planned to keep it stock. LOL like that ever happens...

After driving the truck for a few days I noticed the rotors were slightly warped and knew this would only get worse towing my boat. I did some research on here and found the Tundra Brake Upgrade thread. I changed the oil/filter at this time too. After some reading I also decided to have a B&M 70264 external trans cooler installed to protect the trans and cover the fluid mixing issue with the rad. At this point I thought all was good and I had the bugs ironed out. The truck had the typical dead/intermittent clock issue which I may or may not address down the road. My buddy who is my mechanic noticed the fan clutch seemed on it's way out so I ordered a new Aisin and decided to also swap plugs(IK22s) and NGK wires as well. At this time we found the valve cover gasket to be leaking into one of the cylinders so those had to be ordered as well. The PCV got cleaned out while in there now I felt we were all done and ready to enjoy the vehicle... See where this is going lol.

The suspension lift bug probably got to me enough after I removed the factory Sport running boards and saw how much better it looked without them. I towed my boat(only about 1500lbs or so) a few times and noticed the infamous rear suspension sag and it just started getting to me until I finally had enough and started reading up on lifts. Here you can see how bad the sag was:

Here's what I settled on ordering and the current status of the build now after I've thoroughly abused my debit card and bank account:

Old Man EMU Suspension Lift using 881 Front Coils + top plate spacers w/ 90004 Front Shocks & 890 Rear Coils w/ 60028 Rear Shocks
1" Fat Pats Body Lift
Toytec 3" Bump Stop Drop Spacers for the rear
Toytec Front Differential Drop
Toytec Panhard Drop
Toytec SS Front Brake Lines
Toytec SS Extended Rear Brake Lines
Level 8 Mk6 wheels 16x8 -10 Offset in Bronze
BFG A-T KO2's 285/75R16 Load Range E
RDCOBRA91 Ebay 1.25" Hubcentric Wheel Spacers
OEM Toyota Lower Ball Joints
New Lucas fluids in both diffs and t-case
DRL's disabled
VSC/TCS on/off switch installed

After ordering and installing all these items this week I realized a few more pieces of the puzzle I need and have the following parts ordered:

MStudt's standard extended sway bar links
OEM Toyota outer tie rods
Toytec Adjustable DOM Panhard Bar
OME 10mm trim packers which I'll be double stacking on rear coils to lift additional 3/4" to give slight rake and level towing ride height

I'm considering SPC UCA's but may hold off for now. I'll add better pics of how the truck currently sits after the rest of the parts are installed, alignment done and it gets fully detailed. It'll probably be a couple weeks until it's all in and wrapped up. If I forget anything I'll add it and let me know if you have any other tips or advice for the current mod list.

The truck does ride excellent with this suspension package I put together. I never realized how sloppy the old original stuff was until I drove it two days ago on the new lift. The OME components ride great, are not too stiff or harsh and it handles very well for what it is. I can't wait to get it finished and enjoy it!

Cool! How much did all of the lift cost you at the end?

That whole pile of parts I listed including tires($800) and wheels($500) about $2700. A few hundred bucks more with the extras I just bought so about $3300 now.

Sweet! Glad your started a build thread. There's a thread on here for IJM owners with some really nice builds. Post up. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-ge...4runner-9.html

I saw the Morristown sign. Haha. I grew up in Rockland County, not far from there. A buddy and I use to run brackets in Englishtown at Raceway Park. He had a Camaro RS and I had a 396 Chevelle. His dad owns a distributership of Boars Head meats. And yes they use real gold on their trucks. Fun times... I used to hold the record for Pole Position at Seaside!!! Haha New chapter....

sub'd...

Small world lol... I sell Volvo's in Summit, NJ. I live in Hackettstown, NJ which is just 5 minutes from Island Dragway. My friends and I used to run at Island on test & tune nights all the time and I've raced at Etown as well. I used to do a lot of street racing when I was younger and dumber in my Talon all over this area... Nanuet NY, Philly, Ave P in Newark, Yonkers NY etc etc. And about that sign... It's coming off as soon as I remember to get to it lol. I'll post up in the IJM thread when I get better pics of the rig all cleaned up and finished.

Here's a couple pics after it went to the car wash. It'll get an alignment this week along with the new oem outer tie rods and Toytec panhard bar. The extended end links will be in next week. I love the way the truck looks now and it'll go up about 3/4" higher when the trim packers come in for the rear coils. These 4runners should've come from the factory like this!

Ordered a new steering shaft extension from 4crawler today because I didn't like the junk looking plastic one from FatPat's. The holes were drilled to extreme edges and blowing out the sides so I really don't trust it. The 4crawler version is metal. I'll try to remember to post pics of the FatPat's vs the metal one when it comes in.

90gold's '01 T4R Sport Build

Had the alignment done today and truck drives straight as an arrow. The panhard bar and new outer tie rods were installed before the alignment as well. Got a new fuel filter going in the truck this weekend as well as a cleaning for the maf, iac and throttle body. The trim packers arrived but the damn Amazon shop only sent me 3 instead of the 4 I ordered so I'm still waiting on that and the extended end links.

I'm leaning towards regearing the truck now with 4.88s. Having a hard time deciding to coin up and do a ARB air locker and compressor in the rear. Don't think I should order gears though if I'm not going to lock it up in the rear.

Great build so far. Those wheels look amazing! Might have to take a look into those. Truck is in great shape though and I'm looking forward to what else you put into it.

Thanks!

I ordered an Air Lift 1000 kit for the rear today. That along with the trim packers when added will be perfect for towing. I'm hung up on the gear order... A 4th of July sale would probably help...
