Unless I missed it, what were your impressions of the Falkens on the trip?

I absolutely loved them. They hooked up much better than I thought they would on all terrains and there was only one line I couldn't take because they lost traction (pre launch pad on poison spider). I think the waterfall on poison spider and top of the world in general really showed how well they grip and gave a very good mix of terrain. The second section of the waterfall has a very steep sandy section that I wasn't very confident about because I could hardly walk up it but the 4runner went right up without slipping a tire.

Overall the tires held up really well and I lost under 1/32nd of tread during the 1600 mile trip and they were just as quiet as the bridgestone duller highway tires I had before. I would highly recommend these tires for anyone looking for a good all terrain tire.

Heres that section i was referring to

Rear Bumper

Finished up the fabrication on the rear bumper, still have some small holes to fill but good enough for now. It took the entirety of two weekends but Im super happy with the way it turned out. Eventually I will add a swing out but that will be later down the line. I also need to add some poly body mounts in the back from sonoran steel because I can see that being a problem already. Im also waiting untill I finish the front in the next few weeks to powder coat them. Im thinking a hammered grey/black to go with the grey flares.

I didn't know you had a build thread! Moab looks like it was a success for you too. Too bad we didn't cross paths. I crossed paths with Derpiful and his group also, but out near Gemini Bridges. You're right those RZRs are the worst thing ever.

New rear bumper is looking good, you shouldn't have a problem dragging that one around. I drug mine pretty hard on Fins n Things and Top of the World. A little touch up and it's as good as new.

Moab was absolutely a success for me, you guys looked like you had a blast as well. We crossed paths with Derpiful's group too but out on hell's revenge. I think I might have seen you guys camped down by the Dewey bridge on our way out to top of the world also but didn't realize it till later.

Probably was us, we camped there two nights. Not the most secluded site, but it had a fire ring and was easy to get to.

I highly recommend the afe drop in filter and that anyone running a k&n check to make sure they're filter is actually sealing. I currently have a fitment issue filled with k&n but I dont see it really going anywhere. But I was able to get a full refund at autozone so I really dont care at this point.

afe seal

k&n, here you can see how the lower lip doesn't seat into the seal and creates a huge gap for dirt to get in.

Also finished modeling the lower control arm mount skids so those will be getting built soon.

And started looking for some new all terrains to replace the bridgestones that I have now because they are absolutely horrible in anything offroad. Right now its coming down to the BFG at ko2, general grabber at2, and the kuhmo roadventure at 51, the latter looking like the winner due to cost and the good reviews. Id love a set of bfgs but theyre just too expensive for me right now. So let me know what you think about these tires.
you have the part number for that filter? i am on the site but they dont have it for 3.4l engine from what i can tell. thanks!

Front Bumper

Well its not done but I had a three day weekend so I got to work on the front bumper and am really liking how it has come together. I still need to fully weld and grind all the seams, add the light bezels for the driving lights, enlarge the holes for the blinkers, and add a small pre runner bar on top to accommodate a single row light bar down the road. Sorry about the picture quality but it was snowing so I couldn't get out of the shop and keep everything dry

IMG_3607 by Phoenix Black, on Flickr
IMG_3608 by Phoenix Black, on Flickr

Also added these little waterproof connectors to the blinkers and driving lights to clean up the wiring.
IMG_3583 by Phoenix Black, on Flickr

Oddly enough the left over steel from the 4x8 sheet I got looks an awful lot like a skid plate so that may be the next project....

I managed to finish the front bumper this weekend and dropped them both off at the powder coater's this afternoon. Total I have about 110ish hours into building these but I really like how they came out and I'm pretty proud of what I was able to do with a plasma cutter, angle grinder, and tig/mig welder. Cant wait to get them back in a few weeks.

That front bumper turned out awesome! Having a plasma has got to make things much more convenient. I'm hoping to get one soon but I need a better compressor to keep up with it. Great job once again!

Looking good man! I like that bumper! Are you planning on painting it to match your grey flares? Would look sweet!
