New Lift, Torn Boots... Another Thread.
Hey guys,
Read up as much as I was able to on the topic but haven't found a good answer yet. Some recommended installing new LCAs that adjust the angle, some said this is just the way it is.
Had my new ToyTec BOSS lift installed by a ToyTec certified installer. Differential drop installed and had them dial it up to 3" of lift. When I was looking at the truck, I asked about the angles on the axle and the LBJ knuckle - was assured that they were okay.
Fast forward about 4 weeks... see attached photos.
Inner boots torn on both sides. Obviously they need to be replaced but my question has to do with reducing the angles. Some people have suggested larger tires (just purchased DuraTrac LT265/75/R16, so that's not happening) and lowering the lift height (would prefer not to, but that's the easiest solution).
Any thoughts? Do the angles look really rough? Let me know guys!
Thanks in advance!

If your only at 3" front lift you should have an even stance or a little rear rake. If your front is jacked up higher than rear it can cause issues, but if not you should be fine at 3" front lift.
As for the boots. THis is normal for them to tear. Especially if they are original boots. As you can see in the pic the rubber ribs are touching each other. The only really fix is to stretch the boots. Research how to stretch them and do this when rebooting.
Bigger tires, lowering lift makes no sense. LCA upgraded wont do much and not many options for this. You would have to go long travel which replaces the cv's with tundra units.

Before you take your CVs out, spend $50 on new boots, use your new $25 snapring tool to get the old boots off, and stretch your brand new boots, take a look at this pic:
This is what happened shortly after I did the boot stretch mod with brand new OEM boots.
Try it if you want, but id recommend either looking into CVJ axles or just putting new boots on and praying they last more than 5k like im doing.

This happens all the time after a lift. The angle changes and boots rip and sling crap all over the place. Chance them out and happy days.

This isn't mind blowing. It's very very very common. Get extended cv boots. Get limit straps if you want. Get good away bar links. It is what it is bud.

A lot of 4runners have similar lift. The boots were probably just old and lifting it didn't help. I have OEM boots and a diff drop, no issues. But I don't expect them to last as long compared to no lift.

This is why I love you guys. Thanks so much for all the help - I think I'm gonna go with the High Angle CV Boots from Offroad Solutions. Spend the $100 up front now instead of $50 every few months.
You guys are champions. Thank you.

Or roll like me. 5 years ripped boots. Over 50k miles and still no clicking. When I was doing other work, I pulled them out, cleaned them up and added new grease. Same ripped boots are on there. I have two OEM backup shafts I take wheeling just in case.

Yeah I don't quite know if I'm that savage. I love hearing stuff like this though. Makes me that much more confident in my truck.

My boots ripped within a week of putting my lift on. I did the stretch mod and they still ripped. Actually it might have helped them along. First the driver side then a day later the passenger side. 60 bucks later and Amazon has new inner and outer boots at my door.
I should have just ordered them straight away but I thought I might get lucky. In hindsight I never get lucky but one can still dream. I've got a 5 day back country trip coming up so the boots will have to wait to next weekend to get installed.

Just replace the boots and leave them be. Don't stretch anything, they'll last just fine.

ToyTec BOSS Lift Height
So... just spoke with the guys at ToyTec - apparently the measurement the center of the hub/wheel to the fender should not exceed 23" total. Mine was installed the way it shipped from ToyTec and measured at 24.5". Check your measurements guys. The 23" measurement is for the ToyTec BOSS lift kit.

Off road solutions extended boot is a good choice. I remember debating buying those or long range offroads extended boot.
I personally went with Long Range Offroad extended boot when i replaced mine. I believe they are a little cheaper and not orange. In the description it says "outer" but they are actually for the inner by the differential.
Here is a link: i've been running these for over a year, no problems.
