rear window wont roll down and defrost wont work

Hey guys I have a 2000 4Runner and for some time the rear window has not rolled down. Recently the rear defrost stopped working also.

Earlier this summer the key fob quit working and at that time the window stopped going down. I thought maybe the factory security system was crapping out so I had a new one installed (with remote start of course), but that didn't fix the issue. Any recommendations on what else it could be? Any help would be appreciated.

Newbie

New guy here, but I have other cars I wrench on. Odd that it all stopped working at the same time. Have you checked fuses? After that I'd take a look at the wiring in the lift gate? Not sure why I would have linked the security system to the rear window and defroster, seems more likely that you lost a connection or have a loose connection somewhere.

Cheers.

The 2000 factory security is an add-on to the factory wireless door locking and the receiver for that is part of the Back-Door ECU. So it makes perfect sense to lose that function, too. This is almost certainly a wiring issue, usually from wear on the wires that flex in the harness between the liftgate and the body at the top of the hatch opening. Push that rubber boot and look for a broken wire or missing insulation.

Fair enough

Good info! Thanks.

OP, once you check the wiring, please update, love to see what your resolution was.

30A POWER, plus 10A ECU-IG and 15A MPX-B are needed for front switch to work.

Checked all the fuses and all are good. Having a friend look at wiring and motor when I have some time off. Will update if we find something.
