OK, so if want to retain both the IFS and my stock transfer case, what am I looking at? An adapter and a 1/2 of a junkyard tacoma transfer case?
(besides the obvious: driveshaft modifications, remote sticks, additional crossmember or crossmember relocation?)

you will need two adapter plates, 1 taco plate and one for the dual adapter. then you will need a reduction box from an early (pre tacoma) 4cyl pickup or 4runner. preferably 1985-1988. Then you will need a new input shaft gear to convert reduction box to 23 spline. You have the choice of stock 2.3:1 or 4.7:1 gear ratio. Then follow the directions and put it all together. One other thing to consider is to put a new set of bearings in the reduction box as the ones that are in the used box are at least 28 years old and might be a little worn. Then yes you will need front and rear drive shafts as well as some electrical extensions for the plugs that are on the stock tcase. It seems like a lot but totally worth it.

OK, so grab the reduction box from a first gen 22RE IFS 4runner, check.
Let me ask: did you have to do crossmember work to install? who modified your driveshafts?

if you have a manual trans you can get away for a little while without modifying the crossmember but you will want to build something more stout eventually if you have an automatic you will need to do a crossmember right away. Drive shafts I had rebuilt at a local drive shaft shop here in town.

I'm assuming I can just work up the additional length for the front shaft and reduction in length from the rear shift in CAD? or is there a rule of thumb for that?

You don't need CAD....just a measuring tape. ;)

exactly once it is all installed measure flange to flange from the tcase to the axle. take your drive shafts to a shop with those measurements and pick them up a couple of days later, and install then drive really slow.

LOL, I'd rather have the shafts made while I'm doing the conversion/install for less downtime (my daily)
what is the additional length of the reduction box+adapters?

What do you think of just upgrading the trans mount to the 4XInnovations heavy duty and leaving it at that?

Depends on which ones you go with....IIRC, just the gear driven crawl boxes are 6.5".
I didn't answer you earlier b/c I'm running passenger drop and my dual cases are both gear driven so it's not apples to apples.
I'm sure someone here already has what you're looking at and can give you better, more exact numbers.
Good luck!

Been looking into this for minute for my 01 SAS rig. The length and crossmember modification seems to be a pain. But, having 5.29 dual locked ARBs plus a dual case sounds like an end goal. I am still unsure on exactly what I would go for in term of ratio but would love some input.
I actually have 2 spare transfer cases in my garage at the moment so I could slowly build one up then fab shifters once I am ready.....
Prob go marlin

How did you guys setup your shifter(s) for the stock transfer after it was moved back? Did you run it up through the cup holder? Run double shifters?

I don't see any reason that wouldn't work just fine.

I don't blame you I waited until I had the box and plates built then measured them and had the front shaft lengthened and the rear shortened the same. I will measure what mine was in the morning but because different stuff may have differing dimensions I would not just go off of my measurements.

cup holder is one way but I used RaDesigns triple shifter. it allows you to not cut your floor up as much. Great product.
