maybe, id first start with a cold reading because your new added fluid will be cold and not at operating temp. get your fluid up to cold on the dip stick, then drive around and see if it comes up to hot.
if you were to do it like your saying, you could have the potential of over filling the transmission.
its not hard process. just getting the trans dip stick seem to give people troubles due to the multiple bends it has to go through.
