Hey Dudes,

Looking for suggestions on a good IPhone compatible OBDII Bluetooth reader and an App to go along with it. I'm using an Android phone and compatible reader but my phone is dying and I'm thinking of trying out something different. I definitely want to be able to still monitor trans temp, cooler temp, volts, etc.

You should just keep the android around as a diagnostic tool! As far as I know, good iPhone obdII apps are nonexistant

It's been a while since I looked last, but it was slim pickings back then with maybe one available for the iPhone and I do not think it had any reviews. Perhaps that has changed now.

I decided to go with a ScanGauge instead though.

Funny that you mention wanting to try something different, I've had an iPhone ever since the 3G came out back in 2008.

After the iPhone 4 came out, I feel like these phones have gone down hill a bit. Now I'm thinking of switching from my iPhone 6 to an Android based phone; a cheaper one too. iPhones are boring these days and my 6 is not of the same build and design quality that the 4 was.

I don't know squat about non-Apple mobile phones though, but that ZTE Zmax Pro looks nice for $99 at MetroPCS!

Stay on android. What phone? How old? What are the "dying" symptoms? I've got a lot of experience with Android. I can help with most issues your having. Plus if you buy an iPhone you'll turn into a sheep. lol

It's a Motorola Moto X, Android version 5.1. The phone locks up over and over again. I power it off, back on and I can maybe do one of two things and then it locks up again. Never experienced this with a phone yet. I've also lately been experiencing really bad reception in areas I had good reception before.

I was thinking of doing a reset to factory settings but I'm a little clueless if I'll lose my contacts. I know I'll have to reload all the apps I purchased.

Any advice would be welcome.

And, I think I will just stick with Android.

If you have a Google account(Gmail) all your contacts will be on Google's servers. SO you could factory reset and your contacts would repopulate once you signed back into your google account. You'll loose your SMS's though. Your apps will also be backed up to Google so as soon as you sign back in it'll ask you if you want to restore those apps. Just click restore from previous device.


Before you go full factory reset try clearing both caches. Here's a link to a how-to:

I have an OBD reader made by ieGeek. It uses wifi for some reason, not Bluetooth. Seems to work fine.

I use it with an Apple app called Dash Command. Reads codes OK and it does other stuff too. I've never used anything else so I don't know how it compares.

Thanks for this info. I just cleared both the caches. Seems to be working better but still hanging up a bit.

I’ve got an iPhone 8plus and I’m using EngineLink. Everything works great and the help desk at EL walked me through the process of installing a custom PID for tranny temp, but it’s not working, although gauges were created, and I’m waiting to hear back from them after sending them a drivers log. Still waiting... ;)

I use OBD Fusion for iOS. Seems to be the best option for reading codes and displaying diagnostic data. It is $10 though
