Roof rack rail screw size

So after I got my 4runner painted I haven't put the roof rack back on. I live in the desert so I'm not really worried about water getting in through exposed holes (stupid I know). Anyways we've got one of our 4 rainy days this year and I can't find the ziploc bag full of roof rack screws.

Anyone know off hand what size screw fits into the roof of my 4runner?

hmmmm, size I dont know. What I do know is that they come in a 10 pack from the dealer, and are less than $15 for all of them

Anyone have the part number? I went to my dealer and they wanted to charge me $9 per screw. What a rip off.

I can try hard to remember and check tomorrow when I am home. My roof rack is off currently and can take a look at the screws.

Hey, I'm bumping this old thread and hoping someone can help me out. I installed my new roof top tent yesterday, and in the process, I pulled out the screws holding the rail to the top of the 4Runner. Somehow I dropped one, and I can't find it (my driveway is gravel). Does anyone have or know the dimensions of that torx screw?

Thanks...

They are M6-1.0 but have a flat funky head so the rails can slide over them.
Not that much of an issue as you really don't move the rack from front to back meaning you shouldn't have to pass over one of the heads.

Home Depot has plenty of flat head M6 options for much lower cost-
M6 - Flat Head - Machine Screws - Screws - The Home Depot
I am preparing to re mount my rack and came here looking for the size of the screws. Appreciate the info.

Your dealer is ripping you off big time. I don't think I've paid more than $5 for any bolts from mine down the road and they aren't even the cheapest in town but I will go to them because they are only 2 miles away if all I need is a bolt. Edit: doh of course that post is 5 years old ><

When I replaced mine I found replacements at a normal hardware store. I did have to settle with hex instead of torx because that was all they offered in stainless steel.

Whatever replacement you get should be stainless; they'll typically sell stainless screws in hex or torx, both will be fine since they don't cam out as easily. Robertson is also fine. Philips and flathead aren't suitable because these screws will get stuck in place after years of exposure, and those will get stripped if you ever remove them.
