Escorting the engine by myself slowly!

Must do the last minute gyrations to set the alignment pins. Not fun.

Happiness is no gap. It's setting on the mount pads. A few bell housing bolts are in finger tight. Engine turns over with a wrench. I'm done for now and going to the bar down the street.

[QUOTE=19963.4lsr5;2690881]Removing the two bolts in the front frame for the diff I see. Which way did you rotate it. It looks like a bolt goes through the top of the housing at the front yoke. How did you rotate it? It's busy in there and don't see moving it much either way.

Once those 2 bolts are out the front drops down and you can pull/push it down some more and it gave me the needed arm room for the torque converter and inspection cover bolts. Sorry for the late reply.

My 1997 SR5 build and repair thread

So at work I was poking around and revisited the Thread titled "The Ultimate Scion Head Unit Thread"

Darn it if I didn't discover two higher touch screen models above the T1819 radio. Well the 1819 radio is in and working. Fortunately after trimming the center console cover any of those radios will just drop in.

They both have a back up camera option.

This is the little crap that takes up time better spent on other things like drinking beer.

Of note: the 30 foot pounds of torque on the torque converter bolts seems low to me but whatever. Used Blue lock-tight.

In hind site I should have probably done more prep work preparing for the engine install. I installed the exhaust crossover pipe before I wire wheeled the sealing surfaces. It was fun cleaning the gasket surfaces with the engine installed.

All below engine stuff done but bolting the muffler and tailpipe.

So everything I can think of underneath is done. Full exhaust, front swaybar......etc.

Two thing I noticed that disappoint me is the PO put a right tie rod end on the drivers side. Umm hint it has a R on it. Also some of the surface rust near the rear at the lower control arm mounts. Before I put the muffler and tail pipe on I wire wheeled the shit out of the rust. It's been there long enough the frame is pitted.

What else do you do with a spare engine in need of head gaskets?

I got a few things to do on the passenger side......install throttle body (which I can't find the 96 engines and may put the 97 engines on cause it looks much cleaner externally) The AC lines need the new orings put on them and bolted to the compressor. I'll pull the schreader valves from the wrecked 96 lines since they were only 1 year old. I'll also pull a vacuum today. Then, Install the Alt, and PS pump and put a return line filter on the PS system. I have a fin and plate trans cooler I grabbed at the junkyard I'm going to look at installing. It's almost as big at the TrueCool 4589 I put in the 97 "puppy hauler".

I'll do first fire before I install the rad probably. Only running it a few seconds. May even turn on ignition first and make sure I see the PCM and the main sensors before starting.

It lives.

Below works to press the spacer sleeve out for the big long bolt so the alt and Power Steering pump can be mounted.

.

Below is picture of the first fire state. Pulled EFI relay to prime oil filter till low oil pressure light went out. Then installed relay and key cycled the ignition 3 times to get fuel to the injectors. Then around 3 seconds of starter and it started. Ran it around 5 seconds.

Now to install Rad and add coolant and vac out AC system.

For the record the engine has more mechanical sounds than I expected tightening up a few exhaust valves.

I drained old oil to see what's in the pan too.

Nothing worth mentioning in the drain pan letting it sit for 2 hours.

Two pieces of carbon that went to nothing rubbing them between my fingers, a small piece of RTV, and I seen two or three flecks of metal.

I also started trimming the center console for the Scion radio. Top to bottom I cut too much. Starting to do the side clearance. May try shifting the radio towards the drivers side 1/8". It's doable slotting the mounts.

Remounted the heater controls to their proper mounting holes and used a heat gun to heat the right side mount to push it back into place. The PO really did a number on the heater control area trying to remove the center trim piece without knowing about the two screws under the removable heater control plate.

Also trimmed some plastic so the radio sits flush on the mounting pads.

I slotted the radio mounts to allow shifting the radio towards the drivers side.

Found some 1/8" plastic washers from a old license plate bolt kit to space the radio out to fit through the hole in the center console.

I'm RTV'ing them in place to make the install go better.

Cleaning up shop while I'm vacuuming the AC system also.

Hears to hoping I got no leaks in the AC system. I only removed the hoses from the pump.

I also ordered the PT 546-74120-mc Bluetooth Microphone from eBay. 58 dollars with free shipping. Dealer wanted 54 dollars and it is on national back order. Only one person on eBay is selling them. And sold 61 so far. I'm number 62. Makes one wonder.......
