Awesome build going on here. Going to copy your retrofit setup.
It's ideas like that I love. You don't have to molest the housing, you actually put the effort in to find a more or less plug and play. Sure you take stuff apart but no ridiculous trimming required. That saves alot of time
And you saved me money because 500 dollars for a retrofit kit seemed ridiculous. 155 mark seems much more reasonable.
Did you ever find a harness that was complete plug and play or is it still ambiguous. I can be the test dummmy if not
Thanks man,
the harness the retrofits? The Motocontrol harness works great, no issues with it, other than having to switch a wire on the headlight plug end, which is in the instructions. I would opt for the Hylux kit (H1 bulbs and H4 harness) and get the projectors separate. The Acme ballasts were pretty low quality and had a very short life it turns out. The Acme projectors are still rocking!
The Borla has completely failed on both ends and won't be covered under the "Million Mile Warranty".
I like the lopey sound the headers have added, so I figured I'd try out a flowmaster. I have had several different Flowmasters in the past, and I personally like the sound, especially on a V6, since they typically mask the obnoxious qualities of V6 exhaust until high RPM. The Super 44 did the trick and sounds absolutely incredible. It is loud, for sure, but it sounds really deep and has the perfect lopey sound. Sounds much better in person, and definitely through headphones.
So you are saying go with the ACME super projector in that link you have on your 4th page of this thread?
Or is the hylux kit your mentioning now a different setup than what you originally posted?
The acme projector is from TRS. You can buy just the projectors elsewhere on their site. I then bought the Hyluxtek (Hylux) kit (bulbs, ballasts, and harness) afterward.
The shop welded the pipes over the outside of the pipes on the muffler, they also welded them "too close" to the body. Not on the body, just "close" whatever, not worth my time to mess with it. Super 44 sounds good to me.
The 3/4 Rack just wasn't cutting it for me. It was very windy with the sunroof open and it just didn't look "right" to me. I cut out the opening for the sunroof and made the mounts for the light bar.
I don't really use the 4Runner much anymore and I have decided to sell it. My wife and I are building a home and we need some more money more than we need the 4Runner. It was not an easy decision, but I have decided to list the 4Runner for sale, here and elsewhere. Really wanting it to go to an enthusiast who "gets it", not just anyone.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope that everyone reading through enjoyed the build as much as I did and maybe the new owner will continue it on here.

I'm sorry to see you go, but I completely understand. I really enjoyed your build thread and what you've done with your 4Runner. Good luck with sale and building your next home!

Hopefully you'll find yourself back in a nice clean 3rd gen (like so many on here have) after the home is built.
Good luck.

Thanks, yeah it sucks. We got short changed pretty bad on the appraisal and now we need to come up with a pretty hefty sum to move forward with our house that is half way through being built. I'll be back into another one sooner or later. I'll do a different build next time, shake it up a little!
Thanks for keeping me motivated to keep going and always enjoyed our messaging back and forth.

Really enjoyed your build. You have imparted some really great knowledgeable writeups that have helped a lot of folks. Sad to see you go but good luck. Onwards and upwards.
