Airaid Intake Mod
Looks like my factory intake duct/hose from the air box to the throttle body is cracking in several places and may even be leaking.
Other than sealing the airway, what are the benefits of the airaid intake tube, and is it worth $137?

Yeah sealing the cracks would be good but ya' know the factory already put a "cold air intake" in place via the snorkel going into the right fender.....
Personally, I'd use my $137 on something else, maybe beer....

That might not be a lot of beer considering all the craft, high ABV microbrews out there, but point taken!
How about $12 on a deckplate mod to let 'er breathe more?

You can change your spark plugs without removing the intake tube if you have the Airaid intake installed. Guess they raised the price of it, I got mine for $99 from Low Range Off-Road a couple years ago.

"snorkel" from air box to TB? Not plain intake duct/hose?
I just fixed mine with 10-mil, 2-inch wide vinyl pipe cover tape. Will roll like that until I do my battery -intake swap.

Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

If you buy cans of beer you could cut and tape your own CAI and enjoy the "work" to fabricate it.

I installed this setup when I first bought my 4R because the factory setup was busted up. I like how clean it looks, makes swapping spark plugs much easier, and removed unnecessary "stuff" from under the hood.
I just had to skip a few high ABV craft beers the next month to make up the difference. A year later I do not regret the decision. YMMV and IDGAF.

Cracked air filter housing
Can a large crack in the plastic box that houses the filter, cause any noticeable issues? The crack is after the filter. Thanks

I have one. Clears up a lot of clutter as tx_shooter mentioned. With the exception of the airraid stamp, it looks like factory.

Depends if it's before or after the MAF. If any part of it is after the MAF, then yes, it won't read the airflow correctly.
Of course there's also the issue of unfiltered air coming in which could be bad if you drive in dusty conditions.

yeah same here, used a toyo ($38) part for the piece closest to the throttle body, no more lean codes or stuttering.
