But there is no specific 5100. And don't get confused with front or the rear.

I have not seen Bilstein make at specific shocks for 3rd gen 4Runner. Only for Tacoma or newer 4Runner. That's why many run other truck shocks. Or different brand.

Buy it through Sonoran Steel and you won't have any problem with the warranty.

Yes, there is a 3rd gen specific 5100, as referenced below. Taco 5100s have 3 settings, tundra 5100 has 5, and the 4Runner 5100 has 4. It is specifically made and valved for the 3rd gen.

My apologies then. For the longest we didn't have Bilstein make one.

But 5100 for 3rd gen vs 4th gen might be difference. As in 4th gen might be longer shock thus better for long coil. (REAR)

When I was in the process of buying my lift kit from Toytec, they said their bilstein long travel (BIL 33-187174) would be fine with the 890s but they had a disclaimer on their site stating it was best to use it with their superflex coils. I haven't seen those shocks offered on their site the last time I checked. My friend has my old 890s paired the toytecs long travel blisteins and hasn't had any issues since they were installed about 2 years ago. I checked Wheeler's and the Tundra rear bilstein compressed and extended shock length seemed a little shorter than the FJs if the length was a concern.
Wheelers has 2 sets of 3rd gen 5100's - One for 0-2" of lift & measure 12.91″ coll. X 20.79″ ext. (no model #)
And another set (same dims as Tundras) for 1-3" of lift & measure 13.84″ coll. x 22.44″ ext. (no model #)

Under 4th gen (same as FJ) they have the 33-187174 These measure 14.91″ coll. x 23.5″ ext.

The top stems on my SS FJ's are bent. I assume that's from wheelin' with 8 wraps. I had Tundras (24-100144) delivered to my house today from Amazon $73ea with Energy Sp bushings for $4. Even though my current FJ shocks should work, they obviously dont. Another difference in the 2 shocks are that the FJ/4th Gens collapse & expand from the bottom & The Tundra's do it from the top. Maybe the poly bushings will help over the metal sleeve bushings & not bend the shock. I know it doesnt make sense for me to go to a slightly shorter shock but many people have run the Tundras with 8 wraps over the years & never had a problem. We'll see how they do.

Curious how that happened? I'm assuming it wasn't from colliding with the body since the top stem is housed in that bowl thing. Maybe the top nut was too loose or tight? Have you talked with SS to see if anything like that has ever been previously reported to prevent it from happening again?

Let me know how the Tundra bilsteins ride compared to the Bil 33-187174.

I'm not sure, it didn't seem too tight when I put them on. Everything looked fine when I removed them. (not too tight or loose) I'm thinking my adj panhard bar isn't correct. It rides fine & only jolts left or right on sharp bumps?

I can see it happening from PHB on the trail. That butt scoot you feel on hwy seams gets amplified when your stuffing a tire and flexing the other. The panhard arc travel gets all out of whack with adj bar in factory location. I've bent many SB end links from side to side flex. The rubber shock mounts only compress so far and it's like metal against metal. When you look at all the arc travels of a 4 link with PHB. Altering one has it's side affects.

Been running SS1.2 v.2009 for -+ 100k miles TRD Tundra springs/Billy Tundra 5 perch Struts set on 2nd, till last week 3rd now, FZJ-80 8 wraps, Billy 5100 LC shocks, had Runner tore down checked Shock/strut compression rebound quality, very good! Past and current ride quaity is what you want any milage, it has been from day one.

I would use the same thing again, money well spent!!

Source for best price
Forget Adj PHB, get EimKeith PCK use oem bar
Front dif, drop simple to fab your own
Then ride for a 100K just my experience tho.

The Billy part numbers have been superceded but the same spec'd shocks/struts can be purchased.
Yota springs same part number.
