Delayed Upshift to OD After Cresting a Hill with Cruise Control Engaged

Some 1998 4Runners may exhibit a condition where after cresting a hill with the cruise control engaged a
long delay back into OD can be experienced. This has been determined to be caused by a faulty Cruise Control
Module. To improve the shift timing, the Cruise Control ECU Logic has been changed. All 1998 4 Cylinder
(3RZ-FE) 2WD and 4WD 4Runners equipped with automatic transmissions were affected with this faulty
module causing this condition.

Certain Xfer cases you must tear the transmission down to get the xfer case seperated.
So you'd be better off just buying the complete trans/x-case together rather than attempting to make a 2WD trans work with the x-case?

Personally I would just buy matching working components and use those or buy matching cores and rebuild them. Swapping can be done you just have to get all the right items matched up and every situation would have to be examined individually with all the different factors you could run into. For instance if you are already 4wd and trying to turn a 2wd unit into a 4wd unit because you cant find a replacement 4wd unit or core to use? is the 2wd unit a no pipe, 1 pipe, 2 pipe? is it an E or H model etc. Are you 2wd going to 4wd? so many options and scenarios.

Don't know if this is the proper place to ask this. I have broken the gray plug on the right side of my 2000 A340E (2wd) transmission that plugs into the park/neutral position switch. The harness side wires have pulled through the terminals and I have no way of knowing where they terminate in the plug.Does anyone know the colors of the wire and into which hole they go?. I can get the terminals and the proper crimping tool. I'm just color blind and want to do this right the first time. Thanks.

Great post, great info, thank you.

I was curious what your thought is about the not flushing of older transmissions for fear of flushing out the friction material or wrecking them in some fashion?

I notice that you have a 2000 v6 auto alumarine.

I was looking at one of those:

2000 TOYOTA 4RUNNER LIMITED, CLEAN TITLE, RUNS GREAT

I've just begun to learn about 4 runners though.

Trying to avoid pitfalls.

I have the same year model, trim level, and color as that one.

It looks like that one is only a 2WD though, if you care about that.

Great question. After reading various opinions on the subject, will be nice to get what appears to be a professional take on the flush vs drain and fill option.

Currently setting at 135k with not much history, and want to do what's best for longevity of transmission.

To the OP -- Thanks for the in depth informative info.

Yeah, I missed that.

I live in the hills but I've gotten by without 4 wheel drive, still I think it's going to be a requirement.

Thanks

I've been looking at swapping to 4WD. I figured it would be easier to just get the whole unit, and your post confirms it for me.

I change my fluid every 2 years or 30k miles no need to flush if you do that.
