Installing rivnuts in roof to extend full length rack

I got a second roof rack to extend to the front of the roof. I have no sunroof. This will require 3 rivnuts per side for the rails to attach. I searched and couldn't find a good write-up on how to do this but I remember a couple months ago reading a thread here from a guy in New England somewhere who did this exact thing but I just can't find it. That's the problem with having so much good information here, you read it in a thread but just subscribing to the thread won't make it easy to find again, you have to actually make a bookmark link to the actual post itself with keywords, lots of work.

Does anyone have experience / advice on rivnut installation? It's a little scary, I don't want to screw it up. Does anyone know which post I'm talking about from the guy in New England?

Buy extras and practice on some extra material. It'll be easy if you get a rivnut tool, but you can do it with a bolt and a 'flat washer' that you can hold to keep from turning. Drill the hold so you have to just lightly tap the rivnut in place before crushing to get the best fit and easiest install.
