Thanks!

One last noob question. Being the half moons are aluminum do you really have to replace them or would resealing with FIPG suffice?

You can absolutely reuse them. Clean them up and reseal with FIPG

It's hard to work on the rig, and then stop and document stuff.
Work...stop, and document...continue work...stop and document...etc.
Thank you for taking the time out and doing this write up!

Nice stuff. You should create a build or journal thread that links all the helpful threads you personally created.

Thank you, have all parts here waiting to do this, Timmy the tool man has a good video on it as well and it's great to have a step by step with pics while you're doing it. Taking a break while swapping steering racks as I type this haha

OK question: Camelback has the gaskets listed as "left" and "right", I assume these are the corect ones to order? Also, total for order is $155 (just enough for free shipping!), sound like a good deal or did someone find a better one?

Thank you for the write-up. More info and opinions make sure this forum is constantly evolving.

How's the bead on that FIPG!? Whoowee. I'd hate for that to set up and then break off inside and lodge into an oil gallery.

Killer write up! I had to do this job twice a couple summers back because I screwed up the first time and I didn't replace the camshaft plugs (just reused).

I will also add to the voices of caution on your gratuitous use of FIPG though. I definitely read the same things about it being bad to apply too much of that stuff, so I'd err on the side of caution and just go with the recommended application amounts and call it good.

As OP mentioned, you can reuse these. I did, and I'd recommend against it only because FIPG is a huge pain in the ass to clean off completely. It really does add a lot of time to the job, and if you've never done this on your truck you're going to be cleaning up a lot of other things along the way and you'll appreciate spending the few extra bucks on the half moons.

Good write up. Thank you. Will use this very soon.

Just one thing: the picture you used to show valve cover bolt torque is the same one as the intake manifold torque. This may lead some people to try and torque the valve covers to 13 ft-lbf.

I think it's supposed to be much, much less.

Or maybe I'm just seeing it wrong since I'm using tapatalk?

Any 3rd Gen FSM will work for this repair. There's some small differences between the years like the throttle body cable connections but the bulk of the information is exactly the same.
