Gonna be tackling mine again sometime soon, and was curious if anybody here has tried this kit from partsgeek? They say it's supposedly OEM but the price is much cheaper than if you were to put it altogether from somewhere like toyotapartsdeal. I've never used partsgeek before, always seemed kinda sketchy to me, so I was hoping to hear someone chime in

I can not speak to that set....but if oem that is a very good price. Let us know as I need to do timing belt and vc gaskets .

on the other hand....many years back I got a set of Ishino valve cover gaskets, they were advetised as OEM....and said, orignlal supplier to toyota . They fit perfecct and I never had a problem with them. I have looked and and cant find the Ishino again for our engines.
I wonder if at that price point ( the ones you are looking at) if they are something like that. Nothing wrong with that , we know many suppliers are suppliers to Toyota and we can get the same parts....like seals and stuff....cheaper but same company/supplier to toyota. Cabinmans ( ebay) timing belt kits come to mind on that. He sells a DNJ kit valve cover kit for about 70. Most of what he sells is original supplier. and seems he has a pretty good reputation on this forum and other forums for toyota stuff.

Would it be a good idea to go ahead and break the wire loom plastic above the driver side valve cover prematurely and wrap in high temp tape to prevent any pieces from going into the valve train?

I recommend removing it before you take the valve covers off and replace it all with some corrugated plastic tubing. It's flexible, dirt cheap, it'll stand up to the temps just fine and it looks much cleaner than wrapping with tape. You have the right idea, there's no real sense in keeping it since it's practically a hazard with how brittle they are. A piece is begging to come off and go down the intake so much sure to block that off too

What diameter do you recommend for the wiring loom? I will make sure to get a high temperature stuff

Not sure, I just grabbed some stuff laying in my garage. Probably around 1.25" would be my guess but it's been a while

Excellent description! Question: how do you keep track of all the bolts, nuts and studs without labelling?

It's best to bag and label your fasteners as you go. This takes the guesswork out of it when it's time to put things back together.

Can I ask - did you do the FRONT camshaft plugs as well? Or just the rear ones? The one one the front passenger side seems impossible to get out (due to clearance from the radiator mount in front of it). Just curious if you did the front ones as well, and if you didn't - was it for the same reason, or some other reason?
