Difficult putting in drive: 2001 3.4 automatic.

My 2001 SR5 was difficult to put in drive this morning. Usually there's a very crisp "click" moving the gear selector down to drive, and it was normal going to reverse and neutral, but going to drive there was a bit of resistance and it didn't "click" like it normally would.

Also may or may not be related, but 3 times now (twice yesterday while pulling a light trailer, and once today with no trailer) the shift from 2nd to 3rd was noticeably harder than normal.

Oh and check engine light came on this morning.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any thoughts?

I'd start by finding out what the CEL code is. If you don't have a reader, just go to autozone, they'll read it for free and then you can do some research. Luck.

I agree, the check engine light once we have the code it'll be easier to diagnose but it could be a variety of things. Doing the CEL that's the easiest thing to start with before
We start providing a shotgun of possibilities

Thanks guys!
I did go to O'Rielly's this morning and the code is definitely related.
P0770 shift solenoid E.
Though the guy couldn't figure out which solenoid on their system was the E
