King Rear Shock Rubbing on Sway Bar

I'm having a problem with my King rear shocks, part # 25001-334A. The driver side shock keeps rotating and causes the reservoir to rub against the sway bar. It's already made a dent in the reservoir and seems like it will make a hole eventually.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to lock the shock in place so it doesn't rotate?

This is concerning - I have the same shocks and just haven't had time to install them yet. Will be keeping track of this thread.

I had the same problem with my Radflo reservoir shocks. Luckily they were attached with a hose and clamped to the shock body (Like a resi Bilstein 7100) so I was able to detach and mount the resis on the frame. If yours is a piggyback style then you may have a problem. If so, it sounds like King didn't do a lot of R&D with their design (As Radflo didn't either). As much as I like the quality of King, Icon seemed to nail it on the fit & finish as their reservoir suspension components come with remote mounts and custom brackets for the resis that hold the in just the right place. The shock will always rotate if there's nothing to keep it spinning, because you don't want the top nut too tight as those shocks do flex around in the mount with the bushing according to Sonoran Steel, so if they're overtightened it could cause problems.

The King reservoirs are attached by a hose with a nice mount that attaches to the shock body. I should be able to mount the reservoirs separately but I might need a longer hose. The passenger side doesn't have this problem so I would only need to mount the driver side shock. I've sent an email to King to see if they have any suggestions. I'll update this thread if I hear back from them.

King Rear Shock Rubbing on Sway Bar

So if you rotate the shock away from the RSB, the shock is rotating in the upper bushings, back into the RSB?

Edit-
I agree with @Mgyver1

I had this problem on my Tacoma prior to my current love(4Runner) and fough this for awhile. I finally gave up and noticed that once i did some flexing and off roading it never rotated again. I only adjusted my clamping to the shock itself and not the bolts to the axle and upper shock mounts. I am curious to see what people do about this KING setup as my future is the Icon Remotes with dampening for a better ride..

Late update, I heard back from King and they told me it's the reservoir mount that's rotating. I explained that the reservoir mount is snug and that the actual shock body is rotating. I can turn the entire shock by pulling on the reservoir. Their reply was "That can not be the case. That would mean the top cap is loose and you would have lost all your pressure and oil would have ejected out the top cap. The reservoir has to be moving around the shock body."

I've tightened the top nut as much as I'm comfortable with. It has that feel like it's going to snap if I tighten it anymore. It holds for a few hundred miles and then I have to pull the reservoir away from sway bar again.

So at this point the only permanent solution seems to be mounting the driver side reservoir to the frame, like Mgyver1 said.

Sucks, but it is what it is.

Could remove the sway bar. Should be fine with the rear one. And get more flex at the same time.

So if the shock keeps rotating to the same location after a few hundred miles, why not let it do that then loosen the reservoir mount and move the reservoir away. Perhaps for some reason, the shock body has a certain location it wants to rotate to and the reservoir was just placed on the shock body wrong during factory assembly.
