Extending Driver's Seat Back For Tall Driver

I have a 3rd Gen 4Runner and have only one complaint... the Driver Side seat doesn't move back far enough for me to get really comfortable, especially on long-distance drives. I am about 6.3 and am only looking for just a few inches....maybe 3-4.....I do not, however, want to comprimise safety.

I have seen some kits in the past, and would like to get some feedback from this community on your experiences....

Thanks!

Josh - Asheville, NC

I would like to know too. I am 6'0 and I have the seat all they way back. It is still just a little too close to the pedals for me.

Weird, I am 6' 1" and I don't have that problem. Maybe it's the fact that I am only 18 and 170 lbs

You're right.......

Good point marko3xl3, I am getting a little thick in the middle, but I am working on that......

In the meantime, I still have the issue with comfort, and when the winter weather requires more clothing, I am noticing it a little more.

I have taken a good long look at the way that the rails bolt into the floor and have an idea how it could possibly work, but it would require removing the seat, while I make the modifications. And there are always surprises when making mods...always. That might take more than a weekend and could leave me without my work vehicle......

If there is a product out there, something that I could buy, something that is pre-fabricated, this would be preferable.

My dealership was of no help, they told me to go to metal fabricator.........

Anyway........

Hope there are some ideas.....

Josh

I'm curious too, I'm 6'3", the headroom is alright (I just make sure to keep up on the haircuts) but legroom would definitely help...

Well you keep that girlish figure there. LOL JK. I just dont like how much my knees are bent with the seat all the way back. I like my legs stretched out a bit with a slight bend in the knee. Right now it is like sitting in a regaular chair.

Same here im a new owner of a 4runner limited 07. And my knee and my ankle start to hurt after driving for a while. I dont have this problem with my 05 tacoma though. It feels like the 4runner was built for short people. Im 5'11 and thats the only thing i hate about the suv. Front seat passengers have complained too. It seems like the pedals were built to high. If they were back some it would be perfect.

i dont know what any of you guys are talking about, im 6'3" and 205lbs and dont have any problems moving around or staying comfortable on long drives, headroom is fine, though i have a sunroof so maybe that raises the interior roof line somehow.

Actually, the sunroof cuts into the headroom by an inch or so...unless of course you have it open!
I'm 6'6'' 230lbs and have looked into getting both more legroom and headroom. The options however aren't too appealing. They involve new bolt locations being welded into your floorboards to get a few more inches of legroom.
The headroom wasn't much better either....they were going to cut down the foam in the seat as well as try to chop the seat frame down by a bit.
If anyone comes up with an easier solution I'd love to hear about it....

Some people say they are taller and it is fine for them. I just wish it went back a hair more than it does now. I have power seats I wonder if the manual ones have more adjustment? I had a '01 Malibu with the Driver seat being the only power one. The passenger seat was manual and it went back farther. I kinda think the 4Runner was designed for smaller drivers. How many of us have the seat all the way back? Also there are times espcially when I first bought my 4Runner that I would get my foot hung up on the brake pedal while going for the gas. I am 6'0 and 180. So i am not some 500lb fata$$ that is trying to fit a large pizza in my lap between me and the steering wheel LOL.

gee wiz, im 6'2 and have some of the same issues, i have my siren controls right when you get in to the left of the steering wheel where all the switch panels are and sometimes when i get in, in a rush i crack my knee on it and sit there for about 5 minutes in pain.

I saw something about getting extended brackets for your seat to extend how ever much farther back you wanted, the only sacrifice is the leg room behind you for a passenger is already slim to none with the seats all the way back.

I know they exist because i saw them on a show with Shaqille O'neal, and he had them on some sports car so he could drive it.

yup, custom rails is your only answer really. my homie put some in his accord and can now slide his seat all the way back to the rear seat, plenty of room. and extend a seats prices are pretty much the same as wedge racing, not a bad deal if they bolt up right with no mods or welding.
