CEL Bulb Size?

I've looked through a lot of threads all of which seem to just cover getting the speedo and tach bulbs changed, but I am looking for info on the bulb size for the CEL itself. Anybody know what size bulb this is or an LED substitute? I'd like to have it in hand before tearing apart the dash, if no answer comes up, I'll swing into the stealership and ask.

It's a normal automotive bulb that pulls out of its holder, the dealership may want to quote you for the whole thing. It's a #74 in my 96.

EDIT:
Some quick reading shows #24 could be a possibility for your newer trucks.

Pulled it apart today...previous owner or mechanic was nice enough to just remove the bulb. #74 does not work....#24 looks too big...thinking it might be #194 from reading other sites.

DING DING DING! 2721 is the winner...at least for my 2000, so I assume 1999 and up.

Going by what the internet says about the #74 bulb being the one to use, I didn't like the fit into the holder. So I measured the factory bulb, measurements make it to be a T11/2 bulb = 2721. The 74 bulb is a T13/4 bulb. The 2721 bulb fits all model years of 3rd gen where ever 74 is recommended. Online price Bulbtown $.65 each. Use them in both my Rides!!

Agreed. I put a 74 in there and either didn't cram it in far enough (as it was started to wedge out the holder) or it wasn't the one...either way, light wouldn't light up. Might very well have worked, but I was nervous about breaking the little plastic receiver.

Odd thing...thought my D light was burned out on the gear selector....changed the CEL and put everything back together...now the D gear indicator lights up....must have been loose?

That's what kept happening to me using the 74. You put them in good enough to hold and it spread the socket apart where it wouldn't fit the hole. or it would work sometimes or not. 2721 is the correct bulb, have used them for 3 or so years now.

Led?

Has anyone used an LED bulb for these? The rest of my dash is LED would love to also use an LED for the CEL if possible...

You need the “E74” - it’s slightly different than the 74 and is a perfect fit. They have them cheap on amazon.

Here’s a nice chart. 2721 and E74 seem to be the same, but the E74 seems to be brighter
