Differential and Transfer Case Breather Mod

Hey all,

I have searched high and low for this questions, but there is a lack of information. I have a 5-speed 1999 and want to run a breather extension from the transmission and transfer case. Any information about location of stock breathers would be appreciated! My truck only has the extended front diff breather stock. Thanks.

The stock breathers for the transmission and transfer case are right at the top of each. They are around the same height as the stock front diff breather. How high do you want to bring them?

This is the best I got (I have an auto, so I can only show you the transfer case portion...):

The breather is the small circle next to the front 4-bolt plate in front of the transfer case shifter. There is a vacuum line from the transfer case itself to the transfer case adapter that you can barely see on the left side. The auto trans breather goes from the top of the case with a pipe or hose (depends on year) that goes up the bellhousing a bit.

Charlie,
is that from a multi-mode TC? Mine has the transfer lever located where that blank plate beside the breather is.

No, standard j-shift. All of the US delivered 4Runners are top-shift, even the multi-mode ones... except for maybe the 4-cylinder manual trans trucks, I think?

If you have the diesel (I think you do?), then your case is a front-shift, due to the different location of the transmission and engine on that setup.
