To answer the OP's question, I paid $680 parts and labor to a local mechanic last year

I will do the next one myself using the aircabinman kit when my T4R turns 300K

New to Toyota's

Hey guys I just bought the same kit that 111db got. Aisin TKT-025 Engine Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump. I also ordered a new thermostat, crank bolt and belt set. It does not come with the crank or cam seals. The 2000 4Runner has 150k on it. Do the seals usually leak? I believe this is the original TB.

Good post, this is a must-do at the same time in my opinion.

I'm not aware that they're prone to leaking, but anything is possible. When I did my TB the first time around 120k, they were not leaking and I did not change them. Now at almost 240k I'll take a look but at this point I'm not planning on changing them.

There are some awesome kits on eBay that use all Toyota genuine parts. And there are awesome step by step write ups on this forum. Save the money!

I just did mine and they were not leaking and I did not replace them either.

Are they at least using decent parts like the Aisin kit?

I shopped around between about half a dozen shops. I had all the parts to do it myself and replace pretty much everything (see list below). I literally turned the first bolt and thought "wow, I really don't feel like doing this). So, the shop I ended up going with charged me $350 for all of it, but several were around $500-- kn Northwest Florida, heh.

Radiator
Timing Belt
Water pump
Thermostat
Cam / Crank Seals
Oil Pump
All new hoses

About $890 at a local dealer. Just had it done and I was overdue. I get a loaner car too! They gave me a 2018 SR5. The service rep knows I like 4runners and he is a member here but I don't know his handle. Thanks Brandon.

I was just quoted $1700 from a local dealer, but I think the service writer isn't familiar with the job and quoted me as if all of those items are separate jobs. I'll update after I visit the shop today.

I would ask if you can provide the parts. They are seriously upcharging you on that Aising timing belt kit. That kit is 175 bucks from Amazon. Plus it looks like they are using aftermarket cam/crank seals which I would highly suggest you don't let them do that.

Even the aircabinman kit on Ebay that has everything on here (all OEM) is only like 270 bucks. You would just have to pay for their coolant which doesn't look too bad at 20 bucks a gallon. And I would hope that they would not be putting in "reconditioned" antifreeze, whatever the hell that is...
