Max GVW with Billstein 4600s + OME 906 springs?

The GVWR for my 2000 4Runner V6 SR5 is 5,250lb.

I installed 4 Billstein 4600s and OME 906 springs because I do a lot of off-roading with plenty of gear. This particular setup has worked well – more robust, even if the shocks are a bit aggressive. There's plenty of rake when it's unloaded, but it rarely is, and carries loads much better than the original equipment.

I just got back from a long road trip, including off-road travel. On my way back (I obviously should have done this first), I got the vehicle weighed at a truck stop. The gross weight came out to 5,380lb (inc. passengers).

Even though I'm over the limit, I never had any trouble, even going uphill. It's clearly quite a load, but it always felt like the V6 was handling it perfectly, even off road and uphill.

Considering my upgraded shocks and springs, would my effective GVWR increase somewhat? Or is that max load limit a function of other factors totally unrelated to shocks/springs?

Factory GVWR should be mostly suspension related. Remember, you can also tow 5000 lbs. while loaded to GVWR (though that is reduced by tongue weight). That means the engine/trans is rated to pull 10k+ lbs and the brakes are designed to work with over 7250 lbs (working trailer brakes are assumed for >2000 lb trailers).

You aren't voiding your warranty at this point... so do what works and feels right!

Thanks for the info!

It felt solid. Before I had the new shocks/springs, I was never able to load it with this kind of weight. Glad to know that it'll be OK!
