Axle Ratio from 1999 SR5 v6 auto 4wd
Hi guys, new guy here. I did a lot of searches already so be nice . Hope you guys can confirm something for me...
I picked up an e-locker axle from a 1997 4runner Limited 4wd auto v6 at my local junkyard. I counted the ring splines and pinion splines and determined it's a 4.3 ratio (like most of the other threads have stated). 43 splines on ring gear and 10 on the pinion gear.
My question is on my current car. It's a 1999 4runner SR5 4wd auto v6 no locker. I don't want to have to tear it apart to figure out the gears. Most of the threads state it is "probably" and most likely a 4.10 given it's not locked. However, I jacked up 1 rear tire and did the "spin test" and got these results.
13 single tire rotations yielded exactly (or very close to it) 28 axle rotations.
28*2 / 13 (since I think I'm supposed to rotate tire twice) and got 4.30769 gears.
Am I good to say I got 4.30 gears in my v6 auto. That'd make my day since I could just swap the entire axle!
I want to make sure before I start re-buliding the junkyard axle and buying the relays/switches/etc.
Thanks Yoda Fam!
**EDIT 8/13/2017: Did the 20 tire rotation spin test and confirmed I got 43 axle rotations exactly. Both methods seem legit but this one confirmed it's 43 / 10. I'll probably open her up for kicks to confirm.

If it's automatic it is very likely 4.3, not really related to if it is locked or not, except the lockers are more common in Limited editions and all Limited's are automatic which is 4.3, so most locked axles are 4.3.

Axle Ratio from 1999 SR5 v6 auto 4wd
My 97 SR5 auto is 4.10........which matches the ratio code on the door sticker. With stock tires at 2000rpm I'm doing 63-64mph.
The 97 Limited e-locker is doing 58-59mph at 2000rpm with a 4.30 gear code on the sticker.

Yah, i confirmed the locker i pulled from the 97 limited is 4.3 via the splines. I just wanted to confirm if my 99 (non locker) was 4.3 or 4.10. I'm fairly sure it's 4.3 based on the spin test but a lot of the forums state they were 4.1!
I will drive on the freeway to see what i am at @2000rpm.

Wow... so you are the one who pulled the axle from the 97 in the yard in Fresno. A friend of mine took the seats off of the same truck and he said there were two who looked very happy to find something near the dash. I said it got to be the rear locker!
Anyways... post the code located on the door jamb or a picture of it.

Nope, most non locked Limiteds are 4.10. Locked are 4.30
Manual SR5's Locked are 4.10,
not sure about SR5 Auto's though they are rare.(Highlanders, SE's)
Locked, manual Base models are 4.56

You have to rotate the tire 20 times & count the rotations of the drive shaft. Or do it 10 times & times it by 2. But 20 times gives a more accurate number say if you're trying to figure out 3.90 vs 4.10. etc.

Yah. My brother-in-law and I were there when he took the seats . I was eyeing them too but I wasn't sure if I wanted leather (got them in my other cars and it's hot as f*** in Fresno). And yah, we were happy to find the 4WD ECU. We took the axle first and I recall needing that thing. The ECU was ~$100 when I looked it up real fast and I got charged $5.99 .
Here's my sticker.

You got A04A as the axle code. According to the off-road.com and LCengineering.com, you got 4.56 ratio.

A03A 4.10
A04A 4.30
A05A 4.56

Not related to the ratio. If you notice the wheel size, it shows 15 and mine also show 15, but the factory wheel is 16: strange!
