New Gaskets, Heads, & Overheating at idle?

Just got completely done with my 3.4l headgasket turn new heads as well project. All went smoothly she starts right up, everything works, a/c and all.

We still have a issues with her getting up past Normal operating temps. Tested coolant system pressure, no issues holds psi. Upper hose is very very hot, and pressurized. Lower is much much colder and I need to know:

Thermostat issue?
Radiator flush?

Bled the piss out the system and we didn't get her done. Any ideas?

Flushing and removing thermostat tomorrow to test.

I think I read somewhere that it's very easy to get the HG gaskets backwards or upside down (believe it's backwards) where it blocks one of the cooling passages or jackets.

That's exactly what happened to me. Stupid me let my wife's friend's husband "help". Sure enough driver's side on passenger and vice versa. Sucked big time when I laid down under the rig and shined up a flashlight to see it.

If you get OEM headgaskets I think it was you should see an L or an R on the bottom of the HG on the driver's side. Can't remember.

Does a tab protrude or something? That may help the OP.

Yes on rear of head you can see a tab that is marked with an L or an R. I think if you don't see it then the gaskets are on wrong. Can't remember now.
