My talon tears up the offroad. It was designed for rally.

Nice write up! Why do you think they would fit better on the 01-02?

The transmission dipstick is short and more off to the side so it might clear the headers with little work, and there's no transmission kick-down cable on the other side. So it eliminates 2 of the 3 problem areas we encountered.

You didn't wrap the headers if you were worried about heat? The stuff works.
Like BrianSD_42 I had a pair of Downey headers but sold them to a former member. I think their fitment wasn't much of a problem. Damn Great Recession took Downey to its grave.

No doubt FI gets you there with fewer bucks. Talking Runners I like the constant boost from idle to wot with a SC more than Turbo based on usage.
The NA mods for me were class governed in autocross, you did what you could to eek out a pony or three. put me in a seat behind twin turbos w/200 shot on a stroked SB/BB thats sweet!! on the strip/street.

Yes in deed they will! They were somewhat the lead in Rally for the times.

I have a bad baseline for this summer, since CA changed their gas blend and my MPG's have gone to pieces, along with any other older vehicle.
Pre-header MPG: 14.9
Post-header MPG: 15.47
I'm not sold on these readings though, because prior to the summer blend I was getting 16.7-17.0 MPG's. When winter blend hits I'll post up the numbers again.

My O2 sensor fouled a few months back and I didn't realize it, was getting a constant 14.5 MPG over the winter. I started tracking it again so hopefully the numbers go back up.

I just purchased a set of DT Headers for my 2018 4R OFP and am trying to make sure I understand everything I need to do to SAFELY install them with no long term problems. I got the long tube headers from Doug Thorley, and per their instructions bought a URD O2 Simulator. I planned on bringing those pieces of hardware to a professional performance shop to install. I got specific instructions from the Sales Manager from Doug Thorley but I am trying to get a good gauge to know if there is anything I missed. If I install the headers, with an O2 SIM is that all I need for it to be safely installed for the long run? I had heard from a local shop (which contradicts Doug Thorley directions) that an O2 sim isn't sufficient for the long term and I need to get it tuned. Does anyone have some thoughts on all of this and give some advice as to how I should proceed?

I noticed that you ordered the non-smog version, and are also located in CA... can you please explain? Why is there a smog version, and why did you not use it? I do see that both are CARB legal, so I'm confused.
Planning my move to a S/C and would love to know before ordering parts. I have an '02 Auto, if that matters.

The difference is the EGR valve port which is only on a few older 4Runners. I don't have an EGR valve ('02 don't have them either) so you'll want the non-EGR valve version.
Since you have two cats, yours might actually be bolt-on and no welding required. They are still an absolute pain to install though!

Ok got it. The website I was looking at them on did not clearly explain the Smog/EGR valve option, but now it makes sense. Thanks!
