Pulled the headliner down, found a mystery box.

So, dropped my headliner to remover the sunroof and found this box with a rechargable battery box stuck under the liner. Assuming it's aftermarket. Any thoughts on this?

It's a lo-jack. You can tell from the FCC ID.

If I remember right, you pay to have that installed and it's covered for good. Might be worth looking into and see if you're covered as the new owner...

That is LoJack. I had it in my '93 Pathfinder. They didn't used to tell you where they installed it so you can't defeat the device and steal your own car for the insurance pay off.

LoJack requires registration and there is an annual service fee after the initial period you purchased, IIRC. Also, it is not automatically transferrable when a protected vehicle is sold, non-original purchasers have to re-register.

If you are interested in keeping it, it also needs to be tested annually and you have to be in an area that the service is available. The website has a service area check to make sure you are in an area they can protect you. Keep in mind, if the car is stolen and taken off the grid, or the device is found or defeated, LoJack can't help you. It's all in the fine print.

Depending on your insurance provider, if you let them know your truck has LoJack it can drop the price of your insurance. This is due to it being easier to find if it's ever stolen.

Read a post somewhere. Where a guy used a cheap prepaid cell phone with GPS. He just hid it. And would re up on the pre paid. So if anything he could track his car. Not sure how useful that is compared to a actual LoJack

I have the dealer installed Lo-Jack from 99. $900 with remote entry & starter disabler. It was expensive but I added it to my monthly payments & got a big discount on my insurance. It was the top of the line alarm at the time.

Well it will take the police out of the equation and allow for one to handle the car thief personally civilly of course.

Anyone see where I left my rubber gloves and shovel...
