CBI Tacoma MOAB DIY front bumper with some modification, or they can send you 4Runner end caps.

So I'm interested in going with the all pro front bumper or the schrockworks front bumper but I really don't want to chop the frame in case I decide to go back to stock

Does anyone know if you can mount them without having to chop the frame?

This is another possibility for 3rd gen 4Runners. It was built by Layne at Denver Off-Road. What's unique about it is it's made of thick aluminum, so it's extremely strong and intended for abuse off-road with mounting a winch in it. Most of it is 3/8" thick 6061, so it doesn't bend. The bumper itself weighs only 54 pounds, plus various steel brackets to the frame weigh another 22 pounds. He built mine in 2001 and he does have the pattern to reproduce it "off the shelf" without your truck being in his shop. The name of his business is still Denver Off-Road although he now builds his bumpers in Fruita, Colorado. He mostly builds aluminum bumpers for full size trucks. He works with a powder coater near him. I'm really impressed with mine being powder coated now although I had mine natural aluminum for years too.

He doesn't have much of a web presence, but you can get his phone number off of his web site: Denver Off Road

Edit - since this is a serious off-roading bumper, the manufacturer was not confident to utilize the frame end caps that are practically tack welded to the end of the frame (and I agree), so plan to cut off the frame caps. His frame mount wraps around 3 sides of the frame there and is bolted multiple directions in the area where the vehicle tie-down/stock tow point is located. His mount is fantastically strong to reliably hang your vehicle off of a 10000 pound winch.

From what I've read I don't think it's possible. I think the 4xinnovations & CBI front bumpers are the only ones that directly bolt on. CBI's website states for 97-98 4runners, cutting and welding the frame is required.

You won't be able to mount the bumper without cutting 3" off the frame. The bumper would be sitting to far forward and the mounting holes on the sides will not line up.
You will also have to cut off the cross brace that the stock skid bolts to. The Allpro Tacoma ENGINE skid will work or you could make your own.

I saved all the parts I cut off of mine, so if I really wanted to back to stock I could weld the pieces back on.

Best looking front bumper IMHO.

But I'm bias. Lol

Savage also requires no cutting or welding.

The RLCWeldFab bumper is all bolt on and does not require cutting frame caps

Graham Daddy 4x4 no longer builds bumpers after having to refund $6,000+ of orders due to build times being 6+ months and lack of communication. His Facebook page has been deleted, surprised those links to his site still works.

Ok oddball question. There is a company called move bumpers that will flat pack you a bumper and you weld it up. Starting at $400 they aren't a bad deal if you can weld.

But they only offer the Tacoma model that far back. What's the frame difference from Tacoma to 4runner that far back anyone know? I'm pretty sure I can cut and weld their bumper mounts to make it work, but just wanted to know if theirs would work without much work.

I hope link works

Thanks for the update, they've been removed from the list.

FWIW, I make weld-together bumpers specifically for the 3rd gen 4runners. The pricing is about the same after exchange rate:
