This. Simple Green is a great non-corrosive, non-toxic degreaser. If you leave Purple Power on stuff too long it will eat it up.

After the engine bay dries a bit I like to take the truck for a spin to bake the rest of the moisture off.

If you have a 4 banger where the spark plug tubes are vertical, be careful not to get water down in them. That happened on an on Honda of mine and it misfired until it was dry.

I just mist the warm engine and spray a citric cleaner I get from true value. Then let it sit 10min and rinse it off with the shower setting. I usually repete this two more times.

At my sons house we have an old water heater in the barn, we let it heat up, hook a hose to the drain and shoot hot water on the motorcycles and cars engines. We also have one that has a handle to it that hooks to the air compressor for a cheap and dirty steam cleaner.I have not done it to this 4 runner, it has not gotten that dirty that just a regular rinse off does the job when IM washing the exterior
I used to be more picky, but not so much anymore

This guy does pretty good tutorial on detailing an engine bay:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQhrIEYwW9E

His idea about using aluminum foil to wrap/protect connectors is brilliantly simple.

Ooohhh no. "rotating your MAF sensor sleeve" can make you go blind.

I know this sounds unusual, but Scrubbing Bubbles (the stuff in an aerosol can) works wonders. Spray it on, let it sit for a minute or so, and rinse off. Here is what the engine bay looked like on my other car after a quick cleaning.

The only thing I cover is the front diff breather because I've gotten water in it somehow rinsing the engine. Never had an issue otherwise. I do mine about once a month with degreaser and rinse with hose, then dry off with leaf blower.

Well using my Zep degreaser and garden hose nozzle on shower I developed a miss.

Guess it's time to pull connectors and see where the water or soap went. It was a 306 missfire code. So I'll focus on cylinder 3 and 6.

Oil and soap got inside the rubber boot on the coil for cylinders 3-6. Interesting......

There's a guy on YouTube, Chris Fixx, that has some good detailing videos. Here is the link to his engine bay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRSoRkM8GcM
