OME 890s vs ToyTec 3" rear coils

Right now I've got 3" ToyTec coils and ToyTec shocks in the rear of my 4Runner, but I don't have any armor right now or typically carry much weight, so I've got 4-1/4" in the rear and 2.5" up front.

I want to bring the rear down to ~3" and am considering just changing the coils out for 890s (going to hang on to the TT coils for when I get a rear bumper). Should I expect a true 3" of rear lift with an otherwise stock 4Runner? I shouldn't need different shocks, right?

Which 3" Toytec coils do you have? What's the measurement from the hun center to the bottom of the fender flare?

9602RC is the part number.

I don't have the measurements in front of me but I will check when I can get out to the parking lot.

For a 2001, 3" lift in the rear is about 23" from hub center to bottom of fender flare.

So if your stated 5" lift is correct, then you got 25" from hub center to bottom of fender flare.

What Toytec rear shocks are you using?

That sounds about right. I remember it being 24.x". I'll confirm when I can go look. Edit - It's 24-1/4". The 5" I was remembering was from the stock measurements, which I guess had sagged some.

The shocks are the TT-9602R Boss shocks.

not sure about this info but i think your shock is a bit too long for the 3" lift that you're looking for but is probably fine with the 4-1/4" of lift that you have now. But most probably, the upper mount bushings (the ones immediately below the mount) are now flat due to its length.

If i'm not mistaken, the TT-9602R is just a re-badged Eibach Pro-Truck Sport shock for the 4th/5th gen 4Runner. the compressed length is 15.74" and the extended length is 24.09".

On the coils, the OME 2890 has a free height of 16.73" and a spring rate of 190 lb/inch. The TT-9602RC has a free height of 18.13" and a spring rate of 195 lb/inch. So most probably, you'll get the 3" lift with the OME 2890 coils, but you'll need to replace the rear shocks with ones having an extended length of about 22.5" and a compressed length of about 13.84".

Seriously though, that's some awesome info. I wish all of that was aggregated somewhere. Thank you for that info.

I will look for different shocks too. At least these won't be so damn difficult to remove....

I have the 890s and with my drawer system (roughly 150 lbs) I got about 2.5" lift

I've heard that rumor. I've heard Billstein makes them. Maybe @Bijan will chime in and get us an actual answer from ToyTec.

I run the Boss shock in the rear and would actually like to know who the supplier is. Regardless it road pretty damn well with the 9602's and it rides really well with a rear bumper and OME 861's. I have wheeled the shit out of those shocks and they haven't failed. For the price I paid I'm more than impressed.

Perhaps the OME Trim packers will help increase the rear height a bit to compensate for the 150 lb weight.

I've found that trying to get a tape measure dead center on the hub while trying to hold it up to the fender can throw my measurements off around .5". The most consistent method of measuring lift for me was using a yard long level (cheap from HF). The level helps ensure I'm taking a vertical measurement.

1. Use the level to make sure the surface I'm taking measurements on is completely flat.
2. Take a ground to fender measurement & a tire diameter measurement.
*It's important to actually measure the diameter & don't assume that a 32" tire is really 32 inches.
3. Divide your tire diameter measurement by 2 & subtract that number from your ground to fender measurement and that should provide a more accurate/consistent center hub to fender measurement. For those that have a body lift, subtract it from your final measurement.

Example:
Ground to fender measurement: 41.25"
Acutal tire diameter: 32.2"
Ground to center hub: 16.1 (actual tire diameter divided by 2)
Body lift: 2"

41.25-16.1=25.15

25.15-2=23.15 (center hub to fender measurement)

BOSS rear shocks are designed / tuned / valved to work with 1"-3" of lift. They are manufactured by Eibach - specifically for ToyTec.

Nope - not Bilstein - but sort of similar. Progressively valved.

Reviving this 2.5 year-old thread.

I am looking to replace the OME 890 rear springs that I am currently running. The 890s have been installed for around 8 years now and are starting to sag and ride worse. I routinely carry an additional 100 lbs over stock weight in the back and up to 300 extra when camping. I rarely tow anything and do not have any plans to tow in the future. I have the stock rear bumper and hitch an no plans to upgrade to a tire carrier bumper.

I have the Boss TT-9602R-P rear shocks installed (about 4 years old and are still riding great).

I am having a hard time deciding between getting new 890s or 891s with trim packers or going with 9602RC-P 3 inch lift coils. I am looking to have the rear sit a little higher than the front and to have the new springs handle extra weight better than the current 890s.

I like the fact that the Toytec coils are longer will provide better articulation off-road without the risk of falling out of the mounts at full droop but I haven't seen many people share their experience with them.

Toytec recommended the 891s for my application, but I'm worried that I don't carry enough weight for them, and I don't like that their free height is shorter than the 890s.

Can anyone share any more experiences or pictures with the Toytec coils?

I'm enjoying the Toytec Rear Springs. While loaded with 100# of camping gear the rear dropped 1/2" to 23" Center Hub to Fender Flare. I do not have any other extra weight.
