Here comes a photo dump. For the first time since we had our baby 6 weeks ago we were able to get out for some time on the trail and explore an area new to me to.

This was also the first time we'd been out with the 285/75/16 tires fitted.
I thought I had done enough hammering and cutting, but not quite. There are a few areas that I need to cut a little more plastic. Super happy with how the tires performed though.

In an effort to take advantage of what might be one of the last beautiful PNW days before winter fully hits myself and a buddy set out to do a little more exploring.

Few photos to share.

Also added a RAM suction mount and have begin looking into CB's. I had a Uniden 520 in my old Tacoma and it seems those fit the ash trays in these as well. Still a good option or something better?

Loving the pictures. I'm also a big fan of the fogs. They look awesome.

Thanks! I’m very happy with the fogs. They’ve held up great and the light output is awesome. They do look good on the green too, IMO.

I did a thing...

I bought it off a guy who bought it 6 months ago, new from Magnuson, with proof. He put 3800+/-100 miles on it in the 6 months and now needs the cash. So, I got the entire kit off of him. The only missing pieces are the check value and the TB gasket, both which have been ordered and should be here soon.

I'm planning to run the setup pretty stock without any fuel mods. While the boost is going to be great, I don't want to give up too much reliability.

Today the 4runner is getting an oil change, intake filter, and once this tank of fuel is gone I'll be putting in a new fuel filter and running premium only.

I'm excited for SC noises

With the help of a buddy, I installed the supercharger this weekend and things went without a hitch for the most part.

Excuse my dirty engine bay but here it is!

It drives really nice and the extra power is great. I don't believe I am having any ping at this point. But I am getting a check engine light for PO171, which is a "lean bank 1" code and that's causing me to run pretty rich.

I've heard multiple things and hope folks can help me out. I basically uninstalled the supercharger and retorqued everything to makes sure I have no vacuum leaks. After that, I reset the code, drove for 25 minutes or so, then it came back. I don't have access to a smoke machine at this point so I'm flying a little blind here, but is it a safe assumption that with all things torqued properly, the MAF being clean, and no obvious leaks that it could actually be a bad o2 sensor? Not having ever had the code before, could the act of simply installing the S/C caused it to go bad on the initial startup?

I'm hoping to have some time to try and diagnose the issue a little more this afternoon but the S/C is on and is great.

Check engine light at PO171 code has been resolved.
There is a little nipple on the back on the supercharger that needs to be plugged when installing on a 99. I simply couldn't see it once it was installed.

Got that plugged and we're good to go. Curious to see what my MPG will look like. So far it doesn't seem too bad. I was getting 14-16mpg prior to the supercharger, so I'm hoping for the same.

No real updates other than that.

hot damn, i just read your entire build thread and i was on page 5 and was like 'where is the SC?!' and wham bam there it is! that is awesome. i am jelous of your fuel mileage. i think im getting about 12 NA on a good day (live in the mountains). id really like to go the supercharged route one day. interested to see what your mileage will be now.

that being said, i think we are twins. i have a one owner 99 limited in imperial jade mica as well with bronze f5 wheels. the only difference is mine likely has many more miles (all with doc'd maint @ 239k). just wanted to drop in and say thanks for the radio wiring harness location and the info about those fog lights. i like the current OEM fogs i have, but i see there is much more to be had out there! sub'd!

EDIT: just saw that post was from today! interested in the outcome!

Yeah, just running stock, no fuel mods. I went one step colder plugs and am running the thermostat that was put in the last time the timing belt was done. No ping so far as best I can tell. I have really ripped it out to redline but have taken it to a bit over 5k. All seems well.

Interesting enough, after a week of driving my scangauge is reading nearly identical temps for both water and trans as they did prior to the supercharger. People talk about the cooler thermostat being important but I've conflicting things in regards to it so I haven't messed with it.

I'm assuming once summer comes around and it starts getting warming I may run into some issues but will likely be doing my timing belt and all by then so can do the thermostat then.

Ha, yeah I suppose I should post on the first page a "current state."
Thanks for the kind words.
12mpg would be painful for being NA. Good to see another nice 99 limited in Imperial.

Tried to take wife and baby out for a little snow driving today, pulled of the mostly snow free forest road onto the track we were going to take, drop it down into 4wd and... nothing but blinking lights... Okay, back up, let's try AWD, same.

Now, I can't get the 4wd lights to stop blinking.
I can definitely tell the car isnt sure if it is in 4wd or not, but the front drive shaft is spinning, so I think it has settled in awd, which I suppose is okay for now.

I started reading in this thread on YotaTech and started by pulling the front differential lock indicator switch and testing it with the continuity setting on my multi-meter. Front diff switch tests perfectly. I got a beep each time.

I moved the TC and tested both of the indicator switches on the TC. The front most one tested perfectly as well. The rear... not so much. It would beep every once in a while and sometimes it would only kind of beep. Not sure how else to describe it other than it didn't seem to be functioning properly.

I put everything back together and am going to order a new sensor and see if that solves the problem. To my understanding the part number I need is - 84222-12010. I'm really hoping it does the trick. If not, I'm assuming the problem has to be vacuum related and I'll need some more help/guidance diagnosing.

Love the M5! It was wise to sell the Dinan 540i for it. I sold my E30 S54 5 Lug DTM swap for my current 4Runner. I stopped tracking cars and racing karts, so it had to go for something sensible.

Did you install a lift for your tires? I too want to go bigger, but want to keep the 4Runner, though quite nice quite stock. I don't want another 27K build though it would be fun.
