The decision has been made to keep the 3rd gen and not to do much modification to the 5th gen.

I went ahead and ordered a Smittybuilt awning, it's on backorder but on its way. I've started looking into other items as well.

some of the things I'm considering are:
Steel wheels
rear bumper/swing out
new seats.

If anyone has a recommendation for seats, I'd love to hear it. I like the idea of the f30 BMW seats but have not been able to find any in my area.

The awning is here and installed.
I'm pretty sure the instructions were written by someone that has never seen an awning or spell-check.

That said, install was easy and I'm very happy with the awning.
I'd give it a 7.5/10. The bag it comes in is very nice, the hardware seems good enough, and the legs and canvas seem to be good and sturdy.
It is a little tough to get stood up on your own, but if you go slow it's not too bad.

Looking forward to using it.

The missus had to check it out as well. Seem to have the seal of approval.

Not much of a 3rd gen update but put some new Cooper ST MAXXs on the 5th gen and went to do a portion of the WABDR.

Still on the fence about what to do with the 3rd gen...

Decided it was time to ditch the gold wheels. It was fun for a bit, but the silver just looks better. Also now on the hunt for a TJM bumper, and it's looking like I might be pulling the rear seats out to build a little more permanent platform.
Wife wants to start doing some more camping without doing many more mods to the 5th gen.

@Ryance39 - I followed your footsteps and got the Amazon foglights that you have. Soldered them up and put heat shrink on the connections last night + Installed them.

I cant believe how perfect they fit and how bright they are. Amazing find my friend!!

If you look back at post #29, I did my Valve Cover Gaskets back in 2018, I didn't do the cam plugs or half moons, and I am now regretting it.

Today I ordered OEM valve covers, cam plugs, half moons, grommets, LBJs, and bolts.
Looking like I'll be doing a bit of maintenance here shortly. I'm very curious to see how the engine looks with the covers off after running the supercharger for almost a year.

Hey man, awesome build so far! I'm a bit late to the party, but if you haven't put in your B&M trans cooler yet, I can't recommend it enough. I caught my pink milkshake as it was happening (right at 187k miles) so it seems I managed to save my transmission (knock on wood!), just had to flush a bunch and get a new radiator obviously. Anyway, it's a real straightforward install, and there's no shortage of writeups on it. I'd recommend you do it as soon as possible! I put mine off and man, sure wish I wouldn't have.

I haven't yet... I likely will do it during the coming maintenance with the parts I just ordered. It's just a time thing. Haven't spent the time.

Nice looking build btw.

Well, my parts from McGreorge Toyota showed up... I think the USPS was mad about the heavy LBJs... Here is what the package looked like on arrival.

Missing all 8 LBJ bolts, 4 valve cover grommets, and one of the valve cover gaskets was torn by what I assume was an LBJ dropped on it.

McGeorge is sending me out replacements and handled the situation really well, so if you're reading this McGeorge Toyota, thank you! They have been great to work with and I highly recommend them from a parts ordering perspective.

Was planning to do the valve cover job this weekend, I guess I'll go exploring instead.

Replacement parts, as well as a few extras, have arrived!

SPC UCAs are the most noteworthy.
Because I couldn't do the work last weekend I did go out and explore a bit. Nothing real crazy and not many pictures to show for it.
One part turned out to be quite a bit more tippy than expected

I think I am going to get rid of the front sway bar here soon. I rarely drive the 3rd gen to anywhere other than the trail and think I can manage the handling otherwise. I'm finding the front end just doesn't flex much. Hoping the UCAs will help that a bit.

Here's another random photo in that same area as the previous.

More to come this weekend. Valve cover gaskets, switch panel, and some general clean up to come tomorrow.

Knocked out the valve cover gaskets, again. Did it right this time. OEM everything. New half moons, new gaskets, new cam plugs, what a dream.
It went easy and the engine looks great after a few thousand S/C miles.

I also decided to add an "Amazon" 6 gang switch panel rather than making my own. maybe I can be the guinea pig for others. The whole kit is much better than expected quality-wise.

I wired up behind the grill light bar and am pretty happy with it.
Looks pretty good when on!

I've got it tucked behind the top row of the 99 grill. it's 20" and fits like a glove.

UCA and LBJs to come here soon.
Tucking the M5 and Mercedes away for winter is the next project.
